The car stumbles from one crisis to another, so matches me pretty well. I have a small coolant leak at the moment, but have a hose in the mail that should (fingers crossed) fix that. Then it's just a case of waiting for the next thing to go wrong!

or maybe not so hard. God knows what happened with the front right. The guy asked me if it had been in an accident since the last alignment, which it hadn't. I'm guessing something was way off with the wheel bearing or something the last time it was done. All as straight as it's going to be with this car frame though now.

He will have centered your rack and straightened your steering wheel so that when driving straight the steering wheel is straight.
If you change any front end parts, or the mrs drives it. If the wheel is not straight when driving straight, then it's alignment time again, as some settings have moved

And I've just been reading the data from a guy in the States who's got a fairly similar setup as me, and having good success. He's running a HX-40 Pro on a built engine with the usual nice trimmings but stock intake manifold, but is only using 91 octane petrol. And he's doing a knock-free run at 30psi and making close to 600bhp according to his ECMLink figures (not good for a comparison I know, but still showing good power). Another good figure would be saying his 70-90mph times are about 1.15s and the turbo peaking at 65lbs/min of airflow.
What is interesting for me is looking at his timing maps, and seeing how much timing he's dropped compared to my map currently.
His timing map:
My timing map:
Now I know there are lots of factors involved, but it does look like I could still drop timing by a degree or 2 at the higher end of the rpm scale and pick up some more boost (running around 1.6-1.65 bar at the moment, or was the last time the car was fit for a 1/4 mile run). And knowing that the turbo is only starting to come alive, I'm wondering if sacrificing timing in favour of boost might net me some big gains in power.
I'll inevitably have another problem tomorrow with the car, putting tuning even further away, but it gives me something to think about.

Also remember that 91 in the us is MON not RON which is more like 95-96 ron or so

No real way to get race gas unless you've got 'baller money. But there is methanol injection (which I did have on the old Evo). Now 100% methanol is a controlled substance in Japan, but I managed to get creative before and could get a regular supply of 90% meth. Might look to go down that route if the car doesn't kill me in the next 6 months.
