Just curious if anyone has purchased a oval varex before?

I had a cannon type on my old GSR and it was pretty loud and very free flowing,

Just wondering if anyone has the oval type with twin or single tips and Does it sound anything like the cannon??

The oval twin tip varex is abit quieter than the cannon type while open, but louder than the cannon 1 when closed

But to answer your question... they are all loud

Have a look up them before you buy one. The butterfly is pretty small diameter. I think they are restrictive even when open

^^ where did you get that info from?
The butterfly in mine is 3inch and I am at well over 300kw atw so I'm not sure when it becomes a restriction??

Btw I run the oval single tip and it doesn't seem that loud to me. I can barely hear it over the 044 whine in the back of the car!

How much time do you spend in a parking lot with your performance car? If you do a lot of parking lot driving, and hang out in parking lots, chances are you are a ricer, go home and read import tuner. If you’re complaining about noise you should not be modifying your car. You should also consider no longer being a man, please hand in your genitals at the door.

The butterfly in mine is 3inch

My mate has one on his skyline, a 3" system and his butterfly would struggle to be 2 1/2"
It tapered down nicely and all, but just wasn't big enough
Maybe it's factory Nissan or old tech or something.
Certainly put me off them, maybe I need to reconsider

I lost 50kw going from an open exhaust to varex. Made the power back with an extra 6psi of boost. They are good butt I've gone Active Exhaust System instead. Expensive but works well. My rule of thumb, 300kw plus requires more than 3"exhausts. This is due to all the 300kw cars i've seen being tuned on the dyno.

My one was from hyper tune. It costs about 1.2k for the system. Comes with computer, valve, fittings. It is a closed loop exhaust system that regulates by exhaust back pressure.

I forget total price. They can be had for under $200 new. It isn't as high tech as baz's by any means. Just a simple mechanical way to shut the car up at lower revs... There's a few videos on youtube with it. One on a later model evo.

From what I've seen, higher loads/rpm, it gets loud - when sufficient exhaust gas is generated to open the valve.

Looking inside mine, the pivot allows alot of leverage on the valve, so it should open without too much difficulty I would think. Then again, is exhaust gasses vs. a valve... Will see. I got one because the cannon on my car is way too loud. Wanted something to shut the car up and not kill performance. For under 200, I thought it was a good compromise.

I've read that the flap fucks up in the dynomax exhausts and creates problems and the fiberglass cracks up and makes it sound bad, I think I'll get the oval type 3" inlet and 3" out with single pipe...

Like I said I had the cannon before and it was just so big under the car use to scrub on everything and the car was higher than legal ride height

I've got a oval type varex with twin tips and i find it pretty neat, very quiet when closed and not overly noisy when open. Heres couple of vids to give you rough idea.

Whats wrong with the muffler on the car?? Its quiet enough as is and it doesn't restrict flow???
Its 3inch inlet and outlet....I dont get it??

Was the only thange the varex or did u change the rest of the sytem as well, so going from a 3" strait pipe, to adding a 3" varex on the end was a 50kw loss?
The cannon one ive looked at, when its open its strait through the only restriction is the butterfly in the middle, its that worth 50kw?

Good point guys... In note detail, thecar dripped from 330kw at the wheels to 260kw with the only change being exhaust work. 330 was made with a cut out valve under the fire wall. 280 was a full 3" exhaust Borison of a 4" metal cat and varex. Total amount if bends was about 3. I pulled the cat off and it gained 20kw. Still down 50kw, we upped the boost from 24 to 30 and it made the power back.... I couldn't believe it Dan from Springy Motors did tell me from the beginning that I'd lose power. I fixed the problem by going a full 4" exhaust system.
