about a fortnight ago, I purchased a purple shell, and several thousand piles of parts that apparently go together to form a fairly quick lancer GSR...apparently.
Has been my mates project for a few years now, problem is, he likes cars, but knows nothing of them. His mates convinced him it needed a 4g63 after developing some randomly occuring spark breakdown, so they helped him pull the motor out to prepare for his newly arrived 4g63 cut...
Fast forward 3 years, the 4g63 had a new timing belt and clutch, and was sitting under the engine bay on the ground to save space. work had not been carried out in quite some time.
After a few beers I decided bugger it, I've got expendable cash, I'll take it off his hands. However, the 4g63 was not of interest to me, as I would like to be able to be class legal for some of the rally events up here, and I really CBF with a conversion. I may still buy the motor as a spare to build up yet..who knows.
Anyway, the car came with some goodies;
Full respray in pearlescent Blue/purple
Full Evo III bodykit, wing and fibreglass bonnet
3" exhaust
Plasmaman front mount intercooler
Xboost high flow dump pipe
Tubular welded manifold (brand name, forget which at this stage)
Haltech ECU
New radiator/heater hoses
various suspension braces
Battery in boot setup
engineered for a previous 4g63 setup in the car
So far, I've changed the timing belt, water pump, tensioners, pulleys etc, fitted a clear timing cover, replaced the clutch with a machined flywheel, fitted the gearbox, bolted motor into the engine bay, plumbed the water lines and radiator, plumbed the intercooler and fitted the transfer case.
Jobs to do before I can drive it again -
* Have drivers CV boot replaced
* Fit both CV's and Driveshaft
* Fit front section of exhaust
* Replace plug leads (crushed by engine crane chain..)
* Either fit a GPS speedo or find a replacement speedo drive ( orginal was damaged when they initially removed the motor)
* Fill everything with fluids
* Fit wiring loom (ugh...)
* Re-fit bonnet
* Drain fuel and refill with fresh 98
so ive still got my work cut out for me, but i feel ive got a fair bit done already in the two weeks ive owned it, considering its parked halfway across town..Long weekends help, but we dont get anymore for a while yet.
it also has the standard CC roof rust..plan is to treat it, paint it, and cover with some of those printed stickerbomb sheets until I can be stuffed tracking down a wira roof.
Anyway, pics.
Oh and here's why you ALWAYS replace the timing belt on an unknown condition motor..was presented with this as soon as i removed the cover..

What a good find. Good on you for bringing this one back. Looks good.
And you nearly finished.
There is a set of plug leads in for sale section, and will be heaps of speedo cables around for sure.
The Wira roof is pretty cheap new, but maybe 6-8 weeks away if there none in Aussie.
Other than that, looks like you mostly done.

to be honest im still very unsure if it will see the road again. whilst under it i found a very large section of the chassis that has been caved in either by a jack or its accident history..its playing on my mind alot, as ive seen insurance and rwc dramas caused by much less damage.
trying to weigh up weather to wear the thousands in repairs to get the chassis sorted on my 3k car, or spend similar money on a jumbuck or l300 to put all the goodies in..as nice as the car looks..its not exactly my thing looks wise, its the performance I wanted, im massively into sleepers

Mine has a whole lot of the sill section like this from constant jacking and working on the car.
I wouldnt worry about it.

not the sill, but the box section "rails" ( I know thats not what they are but best wat to describe them lol) that run along the car about 300mm in the sills

I don't think it would be a big deal for the rwc, and certainly fixable for less than thousands. They are only spot welded to the floor.
I'd be getting the rwc and selling it if you don't like it and using the funds for your next project.
IMO, too many good ones of these are getting broken up and parted out.

decided to keep going with it, as per advice here and other forums i post on...at the end of the day its just a lancer shell, if it gets that to that point i can always cannibalise a GL or a blown up wira to replace the rail sections.
Drivers side CV appears to be completely rooted. reassembled it and it clicks like hell, as well as the boot being completely destroyed. So i have dropped it in to Townsville CV shafts for a quote, should hear about that tommorow.

Gday mate , if you wanna get trade prices let me know i have accounts in townsville. I also just did my rear cv at Townsville CV shafts. Cost me $113 for a new outer cv fitted and balanced. Think his name is george the old bloke his really handy and after alot of testing he found that a certain magna use the same outer cvs, ( seal width 54mm bulk height 58mm ) not sure about inners though. But you your just going to replace cv boots and repack grease let me know i have a pnuematic cv boot installer you can borrow for a carton.
