Hi,

I just bought this VR4 in Perth a few weeks ago and I'm trying to find a little history on it? (the previous owner only had it for about 1 year and most of that time it was off the road and he didnt know much about it).

Motor is buggered so I am going for a rebuild/new motor.

The car had a few mods and I just wanted to see if anyone might know a little about it?

- Aftermarket AFM
- ECU is socketed and has a chip in there with a sticker "BART 055" on it (maybe someone knows him/what he does). Before I buy an ECMlink maybe I dont need to?

It would just be nice to know if anyone knows much about it? Or have I bought a lemon VR4 you all know about? :) hopefully not.

Any info would be great... and when she's up and running I'll get out to a meet up day.

Thanks,
Simon

The 055 bit on the chip refers to the number on the standard AFM as far as Im aware. Those type of AFM are also found on Magnas.
If the ECU is chipped as you say- there are people who can re-write the chip to suit the mods you do in the future if you didn't use ECM link..

That's about all I can help you with.

looks Familiar. Could be one that Mike rau had.

mind you he went through a few ....

Mike had a bad reputation for stitching people up on the forums......but he was never anything other than polite and resecptful to me. Any way...if you need a hand with rebuild parts...let me know.

BRIAN
Black evo 1 full road rego and done properly/legally

I have heaps of parts...but never the one I need.

PM I sent to a guy that bought it off antilag may '09. Don't think he had it long. Seen it pop up a few times here and there, but wouldn't have recognised it since the two tone and rim change.

Things my mate did to the car in the ~2-3 years he owned it -

055 (Magna) AFM setup
Chipped Computer
Exhaust Manifold Gaskett (Mitsubishi Genuine Triple layer)
Exhaust Manifold Studs & bolts
Evo3 Calipers
DBA Slotted Rotors
New Clutch
"Atomic" spark plugs
Steering Wheel
Shift Knob
SS Muffler
Whiteline Castor Bushes
Whitelime Camber Bolts (not 100% sure)
KYB Lowered Suspension (from another VR4 owner)
Tyres

Chip Features -
Stutterbox (launch control)
RPM Limit to 7.5K (I think)
Boost Cut removed
055 AFM compensation
Halving MAF readout
better fuel maps
Knock count reset after engine off

General Stuff about the car -

ECU is a single board J-spec. Dataloggable and Chippable.

Turbo is a small 16G
Turbo Back 3" exhaust with screamer pipe
GFB Boost Tap
Turbo Timer
Boost guage
16" wheels

Rest of the car is standard as far as I remember. It was in a pretty minor front ender while my mate had it. FMIC and bumber were replaced and the front straightened a little. Also when doing the Exh. manifold one of the bolts snapped in the turbo. Exh dude had to drill it out and then had another nut and bolt put in it's place. If this is leaking it'd also make it laggy, as well as the possibility of the 02 sensor being faulty/old and the manifold being cracked.

Check out the sites I gave you and see if you can get yourself a palm pilot with a serial port (DB9) cable. I can point you in the direction of the software for datalogging. Gives you readouts for MAF, air intake temp, knock, timing advance, injector duty and heaps of other stuff. Also reads any error codes from the ECU.

Make sure you hit up www.vfaq.com as well. Heaps of info and guides on how to install/remove/repair/replace things etc.. Plus both the forum sites I gave you should have links to the full galant service manual. If you can't get it off there I have copies.

Don't think there's much else to add, except if you ever want to catch up and compare cars and go over yours or hook it up to datalog (I have one) etc. just give me a buzz. Otherwise take it easy and enjoy the car.

EDIT - if it's not the same car, the computer/chip was taken out of it. Wouldn't have known if you hadn't said what was written on the chip ;)

Omad thats sweet!
Awesome thanks for the reply and huge info... it has to be the same beast.
Got twin pot front brakes, has had a light front ender at some point.
Rims are near new and same as Ksport coil overs
Now has Blitz elec boost controller & TD05-16G which is brand new (ebay job i think)
Screamer has been plumbed back into the exhaust

Motor is shagged and I'm putting in a rebuilt job, just had head all done and from what I'm reading will go for an ECMlink too...

Then I'll get out to a few of the WA catch up days :)

No probs. Just though it was funny it's turned up again. You really don't want to know what the guy I knew traded it in for -_-

You going just on look of the turbo, or? As I said above, already had a small 16G on it from before.

Probably not then... although I got it super cheap so I'm happy.
The turbo looks brand spankers as does the manifold, no rust or aged look from all the heat cycles etc. The motor looked like a bag of sh*t whilst the turbo and manifold are clean as. Mind you it has also been parked up for about a year I believe.
The turbo just has "DSM TD05" then a serial number on it.
Just realised it still has the same rego plates too (just the front one is off in pic).
Cheers

that sounds like a cheap epay turbo. the genuine mitsu ones have TDO5H on one side of the compressor housing and the serial numbers on the other side of the compressor housing. I'd consider replacing it, but do your own research and make your own decision. One or two people have had success with them, but other's have had some rather terrible results. Rob323 on galantvr4.org.au has had a few dealings with the ebay ones I believe. I can't remember if he's on here or not.
