Hey all, 2 questions today :)

1. How do I fix my hand brake, it doesn't work, I can rip it anywhere and it doesn't do shit and won't hold the car on a slope more then like 3 degrees, I've already adjusted the nut under the centre console and spaced it with washers but still no good, where do I look next?

2. My abs is a bit funny, if I am driving on Tarmac then say I pull over onto gravel or dirt and slow down the brake pedal just vibrates and the car doesn't slow down, and recently it's started doing it on Tarmac when I pull up to a round a bout or into a carpark or something just before I come to a stop the pedal will vibrate and it will stop braking for a sec, any ideas why this would be? Also are there any benefits and is it legal to remove abs? Cause I have a cc lancer that I could swap the lines and such over to delete the abs.

Thanks

1. There maybe a clip missing where the handbrake cable attaches to the rear caliper? There are two each side. Or one of the cables is snapped or a spring is broken on top of the caliper.

2. Check your ABS sensors are bolted in right or the ABS rings are in one piece. The sensors can get really built up with crap because they are magnetic.
You can just pull out the ABS system fuse until you figure out what the problem is.
Andrew.

Hey Ian,

I had the same problem with the hand brake, I replaced the caliper and it didn't make a difference. Disconnect the handbrake line from the caliper and try to pull/push it. If it doesn't budge it means that the cable has seized in the line. That was the problem I had. See how you go.

Cheers,
Dimitry

also check that you've adjusted it properly (with the disk rear end the adjustment has to be done by pumping the brake pedal before adjusting the cable. the rear calipers have a screw type rear which auto adjusts) there was a faq about proper rear caliper adjustment and handbrake setting.

if all else fail check your rear pads are ok aswell
