Im after all the info I can get on transfer cases to suit galant vr4's.
I know that the come in auto and manual- where the casing is different, and maybe spline and ratio ?
And think i know there is different splines ?
Are there different casing types like metal and alloy ?
Are there stronger or weaker cases ?
Do ratio's change and are they transferable ?

There are 22 and 23 spline depending on w5m or cp50 gearboxes. Also alloy or steel cases. There are also 23 (?) spline steel cases with alloy tops and a switch mechanism used in the switchable boxes that came in early vr4's.
Which one you have is pretty much a lottery now, 22 year old cars like ours rarely if ever have the original transfer case on.

Is the one with the switch mechanism the one that matches up with the CP50?
When it comes to replacing a transfer case, is it just a matter of matching the number of splines? Or is there difference in the input to output ratios as well?

Everytime i've seen a switchable transfer it's been attached to a cp50 but I'm not sure if it's exclusive or if there's a third type of gearbox I don't know about. There's definately no switchable w5m's.
To the best of my knowledge I've never seen a ratio difference inside the transfer cases. It's purely the output shaft spline count that matters (and if you're racing, the material it's cased in)
