Ive been using a patient lifter GEL battery for the past 2 years lol
Pretty good coz i get them for free
Please, get me one for free too?
Some others are building batteries from li-ion individual cells. Cost is about $50 of cells, but I need to look at how they charge them and if a controller is needed or something

1. key is turned to crank
2. relay is energised and lipo battery is piggybacked onto the scooter battery, providing additional crank power.
3. engine starts, key is released.
4. relay is deenergised, disconnecting lipo battery
5. engine is running and the lead battery/altenator provide power to the smart charger to recharge the lipo.
the relay could be dual contact so the charger is disco when the starter is cranked.
thoughts and comments?

fair enough if you are saving weight and tracking the car... but for everyday use.. your alarm would most likely drain something too small....
your alternator will hate you if you had anything more then stock audio and this tiny battery..

i bought a pc680, will see how i go.
in my wiring drawing, either option for wiring the relay will not work... you need to put a shunt relay in the crank wire and run the relay in parallel or the relay will not switch and/or the engine will not crank.
just sharing. i will try the lipo rc battery later, but check it out, a huge amount of amps available. lead batteries as we know them are finished.
time to catch up...

And the rc batteries have a protection board built in as well
Sure, lipo can go up. But with correct use they are pretty reliable

Ive got an Optima D34 yellow top deep cycle battery in the boot, and even it doesnt perform like all the marketing hype you read about. I had it tested by Battery World and they said there was nothing wrong with it. I found myself putting it on the special trickle charger I bought more often than not. I would get maybe 2 weeks standby time on it... no where near what I expected before having to charge it again due to not enough juice to crank the 4g63 with 8.5:1 CR and 280 cams. Even tried disconnecting the battery terminals to see if it made a difference to standby lifetime and again barely enough to crank over or would need another charge. Fkn seems to be hit and miss with these types of batteries.
I still swear that the best and longest lasting batteries ive ever used in my cars over the years are the fkn $100 Kmart calcium type Gold versions lol.

If you looked at the wiring that I considered, you would see that I included a lipo balance charger in the deal. If you used a spdt relay instead of a spst relay you could disconnect the charger while cranking.

My last post wasnt meant to critcise I'm sorry if it came across that way mate. I was mainly trying to suggest the charging safety sack. Yourid idea on the wiring and charger looks good, the double throw relay is good insurance. Just for the saftey side of things even when using a balanced charger I'd still chuck it in a charging sack for piece of mind. I personally think you went with the better option pc680 will handle the job fine.

Thankyou for knowing what a spdt is.
I hope the 680 is good

How is the PC680 battery going? How does it like starting when youve left the car parked up for a couple of weeks?

Battery is in, but has been 12 months since i have started ute. so no idea yet. haven't even put the leads on it yet. its mounted below where the battery tray was, on the side of the chassis rail.
Bought a lipo and a charger too, but using lipo in my electronics bench as power supply
