Hey all, just trying to find out some info on the apperent gearbox that is in my triton, apperently it is out of a Jap Spec turbo sigma, runs a normal H pattern with reverse as a push down and throw into first setup, i havent heard of these boxes before and just wondering if it is worth keeping, it appears to use a standard triton bellhousing and extention housing with just the case changed, any info would be helpful

Cheers Jarrod

Thanks for that ted, been curious about it and havent been able to find much info on them i havnet let anyone drive it yet as it still isnt registered. Been killing my mrs as she broke her leg 2 days before we picked it up and hasnt been able to drive it haha. As I used to be a bit of a commodore nut (please dont hate me) i am used to a standard H pattern and thats about it lol, when i first drove the car it was abit interesting looking for reverse as the gear knob is incorrect and gives no indication as to where you might find reverse Also do you know any specs on these narrow block gearboxes? just curious as to if it will be up to my demands on it in the future eg: power handling abilities, driveability and upgrades. As the ute will be my daily for a while i just want to know what to expect, i have heard of rx7 boxes being used in a similar RWD application and they reckon they are good for 500hp or so.

Thanks again

The original Turbo Sigma box is an australian Borg Warner gearbox. I used to have one, it was a silver/black and a mate had a blue/black. They had a Astron 2.0l motor and borgwarner gearbox. You could tell the Borg Warner by the reverse gear being left and up and the rest of the H pattern normal,Also the gearbox should have a separate bell housing. Jap boxes are one piece bell housing to gearbox, with only the rear housing removable. Unfortunately the turbo sigma box wasn't any stronger than a jap box

thanks heaps for the info turbovr4, sounds exactly like mine. My bell housing and extension housing look like they are off a differnet gearbox like the original triton gearbox not 100% sure as the casting's look considerably different. Are these borg warners any good? Just trying to determine if it is worth the risk of giving it punishment or look for something that will handle a decent amount of power down the track and just be done with it.

Cheers for the info guys, much appreicated.

i dont know much about your gearbox and if its a single rail style of box or something else altogether.

but we used to change out the single rails with the t5(?) from a ea,eb falcon. they are pretty similar size and style, with minor input shaft work needed.
but imo a far better gearbox.
