Thanks everyone! Well unfortunatly a VASS cert is never going to happen. They won't accept the bodywork, especially the taillights :(

So... after what I've read so far, all I need to change back to a 1.5L for roadworthy purposes would be a 1.5L motor and ECU, engine mounts, and passenger side CV? And my evo gearbox will still bolt onto it without issue or adaptor?
I'm sorry if I seem clueless with all of this... after being defected 6 years ago my Lancer has just been a lawn ornament while I took up a new hobby (which is 1/10th of the size)

If that is the case I happen to have a written off Lancer that I can borrow parts from... and if I go that avenue then I'm considering swapping to the 4G15 for the Vicroads inspection, then just putting back my evo motor... The whole deal looks factory enough to fool anyone looking under the bonnet, and most cops seem more interested in everything but Lancers for recognizing optional motors. I know its dodgy but I just want it back on the road. After all I'm nearly 30 and hold a truck licence... not a typical hoon anymore!

Gear box will bolt on :) use current engine mounts. Just grab the passenger side mount with the 4g15 and ecu. I have drive shaft. If you want to bring it here I can get it done over a weekend. Get vic roads to sign off. Bring it back and we can put it all back together if you want.

Good on ya Gianni. The forum spirit lives within you young grasshopper. :)
Its a shame VICRoads wont approve it for you because of "BODYWORK". At least it was worth trying and you did make something that looked unique in this part of the world.
WTF is it with wanting to fit a 4G15 into his car guys? Get a wrecked GLXi Lancer and put the 1.8 SOHC EFI setup in it. Swap everything over!! Too easy.
Its easy for me to say because Im not doing the work bwahahaha...

Something like this for $1000 would be great. Fly over, drive it back. You got everything you need and its bolt on: http://evocoupe.net/....php?f=3&t=7190

Yeah, I wish I had that kinda cash left... after what the engineer stung me I'm just going as cheap as possible. For a glorified RWC inspection he charged me $580!

But the good news is that I have a Lancer GL I'll be picking it up next weekend and pulling out the motor (I'd bought it years ago when I needed parts and forgotten about it, expecting that it had moved on, but it was kept in a shed so should be all good). From memory it had some good parts on it too like those roof strips too. So while its here I'll rip off anything that may be needed.

That way I can register it as a 1.5L, get it inspected, then just go back to the 4G63T... I reckon some oil and dirt over the engine number should put any cops off a engine number inspection. I wouldn't be poking my hand that close to the exhaust when its just been running to wipe off the grime!

Thanks everyone for your help... especially Gianni!
Hopefully I'll be joining you guys on a cruise soon... its been 7 years since I went on the team 4G cruise from memory, way too long and this time my 3 year old daughter can come out with me.

Just for a laugh, this was the list he gave me to fix...

number 5 to be removed from front bumper (I don't know how a red number 5 is illegal)
rear seat belts faded
battery bracket hitting bonnet
exhaust too low
front reo cut
rear reo cut (for every bumper iron modded to make the kit fitted I had an engineer make up a support frame for the bumpers from tube steel and was documented in the structural integrity report I handed him)
rear number plate lights not ADR approved
must have seperate reverse lights, and must be ADR approved
taillights do not conform to ADRs
must have 2WD gearbox, not a modified AWD gearbox
turbo timer must be removed (it was turned off and stuck way up under the dash)
rear of the car can't have ANY filler... must be repaired and resprayed without any filler (mind you these are fibreglass rear quarters with bog to blend the edges)
windscreen washers apparently weren't working (work fine and bottle was full too?)
rear brakes must be upgraded to factory specs of the car the motor came from
wheels 5mm too big in diameter and 15mm too wide (17s with 205 tires)

what annoys me most is I provided him with a structural integrity report for the body mods, and the results of a brake test that confirm that my car is up to the task with the stock rear drums. But for now I'm just getting it on the road, down the track when its on the road and not just a lawn ornament I'll get an engineer who isn't a cranky old prick to look it over. At least he didn't pick up on my exhaust full of steel wool to keep it quiet!

When I picked the car up he went on to whinge that my car ''looks like one of those stupid things from that Fast and the Furious movie''... I told him, ''great because its a replica of one of those cars''.

Gee what a nightmare. At least in qld u have a mod plate and once fitted they cant do a thing about it. Having said that I'm sure can't do will change something and screw us over.

actually that's precisely the issue I'm having right now and why my car is still off the road nearly a month after it was supposed to be complete!. a pee brained engineer put the wrong modification code on the blue plate la3 instead of la1 or la1 option 3 (engine swap or bolt on turbo petrol engine) instead i got bolt on turbo install DIESEL engines. as a result when i submitted to qld vehicle standards and regulation for a approval to modify for the install of the awd components they canceled my application and black listed the car as non-compliant. if you though getting the plate on was marginally tricky try getting the frigging thing OFF!. you legaly can't touch it you can't take the car to qld transport VSR doesn't have an office you can present to. your only avenue is to contact an engineer have them call and arrange with VSR for an application to remove wait forever for a response then have the engineer remove it and do what VSR tells them to!.

oh and slow ute on the first of November the blue plate scheme become obsolete qld adopts the national code of practice and things change significantly. one thing that's going to miff a few people cages become illegal! well non-compilable so if you want a cage get in fast like next 4 days fast

yes it's me KHUBNER

Yep thats the one. From memory the entire rear beaver panel is fibreglassed to fit Eclipse tail light in it. Is that the reason why the engineer chucked a spaz?

Yeah that's my car. The rear light section was made from a mustang beaver panel and steel straps. He criticized the rear quarters that I had to pump out with fiberglass panels I'd made. I think he regrets putting that down since I turned up straight from work covered in fiberglass.
It's just been sitting out the front of my house for a few years now, getting started up to keep the motor healthy

number 5 to be removed from front bumper (I don't know how a red number 5 is illegal) - Its not illegal
rear seat belts faded - Hahaha thats not even a defect
battery bracket hitting bonnet - That needs to be fixed, just cut it down
exhaust too low - Get it tucked up
front reo cut - Not needed for engineering
rear reo cut (for every bumper iron modded to make the kit fitted I had an engineer make up a support frame for the bumpers from tube steel and was documented in the structural integrity report I handed him) - Not needed for engineering
rear number plate lights not ADR approved - Are they your factory Mitsubishi lights?? ive seen LEDs placed there and still be approved
must have seperate reverse lights, and must be ADR approved - You have seperate reverse lights, as long as they are factory Mitsubishi they should be fine
taillights do not conform to ADRs - Are they factory Mitsubishi lights?? if so they should be approved
must have 2WD gearbox, not a modified AWD gearbox - HOGWALLOP!! the box is mated to the engine, just say you cant use a FWD box on the engine
turbo timer must be removed (it was turned off and stuck way up under the dash) - Remove it
rear of the car can't have ANY filler... must be repaired and resprayed without any filler (mind you these are fibreglass rear quarters with bog to blend the edges) - Not needed for engineering
windscreen washers apparently weren't working (work fine and bottle was full too?) - If they work then your good
rear brakes must be upgraded to factory specs of the car the motor came from - Thats correct, all brakes should be the same or greater than the specs of the vehicle the engine came in
wheels 5mm too big in diameter and 15mm too wide (17s with 205 tires) - This is a grey area, here in NSW its "The outside diameter of the wheel and tyre combination must be no more than 15mm over the largest diameter wheel and tyre combination specified for the vehicle and not more than 15mm below the smallest diameter wheel and tyre combination specified for the vehicle" and because you are using the same brakes and suspension from an EVO, the specs should go off an EVO placard

All in all ive come to a conclusion..... pretty sure your engineer doesnt like u
