You can run 300kw through a stock gearbox but from my experience it'll be a ticking time-bomb.
If you need to carefully consider how you drive your car everytime you get behind the wheel because you're afraid of breaking something then you haven't built/spec'd it properly.

Being careful and considerate of how ya drive 300kw through a std box comes down to budget...

Not sure how you're picking up any arrogance on my behalf there mate and I don't really appreciate what you're implying. I know how expensive a dogbox is and I know that not everybody can stretch their budget to have one in their car. I was lucky with how I was able to purchase mine but I still had to make compromises and sacrifices to put it in my car - I certainly didn't just pull the $$$ from the spare change jar sitting on the kitchen table and just buy as easily as milk and bread from the milkbar.
The whole point of my comments was to say - everything has a mechanical limit at which it will fail. If you know your standard gearbox has a higher chance of failing at 300kw, how can you confidently drive it and enjoy it to that potential if you are always second guessing that this might be the moment it fails?

No need to carefully consider it in my case. I raped mine for well over 2 years before I snapped tbe tiniest part in the box....I just dont flat shift anymore and still enjoy it to the cars potential.
Think positive..drive it...if it lets go...fix it.

So what you're implying there is that everybody has the time and budget to just go fixing/replacing blown gearboxes?
I always think positive but that doesn't mean reality will do the same.
btw - Why aren't you flat shifting anymore? You used to - but you don't now. Have you re-considered how you drive the car? Think positive and start flat shifting that bastard again!

Thats one reason im not going big on power because rebuilding a box or replacing it with a dogbox is costly and i know for a fact i cant go forking out for it. I'd say keeping it around or under 260ish from my research and by what others have told me is fine. But ive also heard of people blowing them at 200kw so i guess it depends on yyour driving style
Very true. Same goes for engines. There is a limit to the stock internals before going bananas on a rebuild and the costs that are included.

Wow you love a good debate dont you Shayne! Lol.
I wasnt implying anything other than the facts I originally stated which was, in case you missed it,
" depends how you drive the car and what you use it for"
The whole point being...if you mistreat it it will fuck up...if you look after it...you can still have heaps of fun and not be worried if and when it will fuck up. Hope that clears it up for you.

Without taking into account what the car is used for, and the frequency its driven. then ya cant say it hasnt been "built/ spec'd properly" you can say its not ideal but to say "you havnt built or specd it properly" is a tad arrogant.
Imply? Please, I have the balls to tell people straight...
You seem to be implying something other than "mate" when you used the term... hahaha,
anyway, I think your reading into the comments too much, 4.20@ mine bro, anytime

as baz said its the heat that kills them, 300kw on the street and drag strip will/should last ok.
on the circuit it wont last long at all. i spent a shitload on a stocker with polishing etc and it let go on the
5th lap, it survived the dyno no problem at 400+kw@wheels

Yep. Incorrectly spec'd gearbox internals for the setup. A costly lesson learned.
Perhaps if I had taken it easy and just idled the car around they would have been ok.
