Hi guys,

This year I'm racing my 98 Evo 5 RS around Lakeside in the Time Attack Series. First race was last weekend and was more of a test of the cars ability before any major mods. Car performed ok , even in the wet conditions, although with the close ratio gearbox was difficult to keep up in top end and the entire main straight was done in 5th gear. Im currently running 17 x 7 rims with a soft compound tyre and find grip around the corners is lacking. I would like to know the max size/width rim and tyre capacity someone has run on the same model car or similar.

Any advice would be appreciated

Cheers

Tim

Join Evo Oz. You will get more information than here.

Are you sure your currents rims aren't 17X7.5 and your running a 235 tyre?

Did you talk to me at lakeside awhile ago about putting your VR4 engine into a EVO?

If it is a race car only you can cut out the inner guard at the door on the rear and get a 255 on it I think. The Hairy Lemon car is a 295 I think.

yep, a 17x9 is doable with a 255 with a bit of work required on the rear, front is fine

a 17x8.5 with a 245 is pretty easy to fit

Thanks will check out that site for future info. Yes correct they are 17 x 7.5 with a 235 tyre. Yip that was me but have now sold that engine and focusing on this car. Thanks for the reply

Should be good for a sub 60 on 235 tyres at Lakeside.

Ken at Accurate Suspension has these things nailed if you want to get a new wheel alignment and corner weighting done.

"Gools VI" or hairy lemon runs 265+ tires on his evo 6. He has a build thread on various forums worth chasing but the guard work isnt simple... anything will work if youre ride height isnt too low lol...

Currently running 235/45/17 on 17x9+22, fronts fine and like others said the rears scrub like no tomorrow (stock height at rear and front is dropped)
