mate, as a minimum if your gearbox is 20 years old and never been touched, it will need bearings on input and intermediate shafts and of course you will need new seals, because surely you don't want to reuse old seals. plus whatever is wrong with 3rd gear needs fixing.
unfortunately, some of the bearings are not that common (read expensive).
Im pretty sure the bearings were $400 alone when source from the only place in Perth that stocked the parts. but maybe cheaper east side
.
The only medium cheap way to do this is to buy a press and bearing pullers and do it yourself. but if you have never built a gearbox before then its not a job for you.

But if you can remove and replace your gearbox yourself then that will save a heap

haha sorry forgot to update you,
gearbox overhaul labour $600, gearbox bearing set (incul seals and bearings) $400 ring assy m/t 2nd synchro gen evo 1-3 $227.70 3rd ing synchronizer $87.34.
that was all done a meek. i still hear that noise from before which im not to happy about since i was assured it would be gone once i get a genuine clutch plate. depends how bad your box is and exactly what need to be changed.

Gearbox oil makes a big difference. What type of oil is it running?
Redline MT-90 seems to be the way to go. Just needs to warm up a little first before smoother high rpm shifting.
A GSR gearbox with single synchro 3rd gear will never shift as well above 6500rpm than an evo gearbox with double synchro 3rd gear.

I found that my old GSR gearbox with Castrol VMX-M didnt like shifting with my Fidanza lightened flywheel and single disc clutch above 6500rpm or it would crunch too, so I limited my shifts to granny shifting.
At the track when the box had some quick back to back runs and time to warm up, it stopped crunching into 3rd - go figure.
When I sat waiting and the temperature settled, it started to crunch again.

sing the right oil is the number 1 priority. Having a large single disc clutch and lightened flywheel, plus a tight fresh setup would also make it difficult to shift during these early stages after a rebuild.
I'd change the oil first to something decent as mentioned and see how it shifts after 1,000kms.

Meek have been rebuilding gearboxes for many years, Im sure they know what they are doing.

im using pernrite pro gear 75-90. Its just as bad as before if not worse with 3rd gear. ill give the redline a go and see how that works hopefully that solves the problem.

Do you have lightened flywheel and a big single pate clutch disc? do you find it hard to shift at any rpm or above 6500rpm?
