Engine Lagging under boost

Hey Guys

having an issue with the GSR, when you put your foot down (doesnt even need to be much) the car just seems to die, only way to get past this is to very gradually ease the throttle on and it will push through. Was looking at the pile of receipts we got with the car and noticed one was for "lacking power under acceleration" in this receipt the garage has found the coil pack to be arcing. Coil Pack was replaced and road test proved satisfactory, this was two years ago.

how do i test to see if the coil pack is arcing again?
any help or other ideas to a solution would be great,

Wait till night time and run car. have a look under the bonnet you will see the arcing...

Normally it will show up as a miss at idle tho as its leaner and harder to ignite the mix.

What plug gap do you have? Maybe time for plugs.

Spark plugs. Clean and recap to .8mm or replace. Next try swapping out the cool pack for another - had one die on me giving a miss under load only - which showed no signs of wear. Problem solved when it was changed. Finally try replacing the leads.

Can check leads. they run about 300ohm per foot of length

Jack...you are pretty much on the money with a lean mix being hard to ignite. So....my two cents is the fuel filter is clogged or the pump pickup is full of rust. Hence car runs lean under load.....and wont accelerate

Could also be a boost leak? ( that is a suggestion and a question ), my car was breaking down under load and I had to slowly ease the throttle on to get up to speed, turned out a hose clamp was not quite tight and let go under sudden boost but held on during steadily increasing acceleration.

Just a thought, I could be way off

I'll chuck in a faulty TPS for shits and giggles.

Had it once in an N/A car which produced similar symptoms. I won't take stubby 'cause I don't really have a clue, just thought I'd type something. :)

My guess would be if the coil pack was changed 2yrs ago with a NEW unit and the car hasn't done excessive km's I'd be moving on to the other things these guys have all mentioned. Check the resistance on the leads pull the plugs and replace them with new ones( cheap and easy ) if the leads check out fine then move on to fuelling if the problem is still there. Check for boost leaks check all hose clamps. Tps can be tested with a multimeter as well. Process of elimination mate but +1 to all of the above suggestions
I'll throw in fuel pump and pressure regulator

My money would have to go on ian with the boost leak lol
Check the plugs and look at the state of them too mate. If its a boost leak they should be sooty from running to rich if a fuel prob ( lean) they would be white? Correct me of I'm wrong anyone

DAMN IT
problem solved, turns out i was pressing the Brake hahaha

Unfortunately not, I have replaced the whole throttle body a couple of months back due to an excessive idle, this being done the ISC and TPS were tested and set as required. At same time i went through and checked all hose clamps and they were loose, tightened up and replaced the plugs and it ran a whole lot better.

Pulled the plugs out last night and they have gone a little white plus i will be investing in a plug gapping tool this afternoon. on top of this it also has its trouble starting from time to time which would confirm the fuel issue being the lean mix harder to ignite?

guess ill be replacing the fuel filter and any way to check factory FPR?

If its idling fine an you accelerate and it wants to die, could it be maf not reading properly, meaning more air is in system than it thinks meaning lean.

Otherwise I know if timing is out and I put foot down it can bog right down and take a long time before it starts climbing the revs. Probs not what yours is doing but the thought Is there

just picked up a feeler gauge this afternoon however re gap to .8mm? the range on my feeler gauge is .005mm to .63mm? didn't have a feeler gauge handy when i did the plugs due to moving so just gave them a solid tap before install, will also take to the plugs tonight with a wire brush too to clean them off,

Also Jack you mention the leads should be 300ohms per foot, if they are longer they should be slightly less and more if they are shorter?

To get the right gap just use a couple of different feeler gauge fingers to make up the required gap...that should do it :)

white plugs is pointing to lean ....check every thing fuel related.

also check the exhaust isnt damaged or blocked...but that would have sooty plugs tho

Other way around. longer leads have more resistance. 2 foot leads are 600 ohm, 6" leads are 150 ohm.
this is for normal carbon suppression leads. and a guide so +-20% is fine
