I checked out quite a few cars here and admire what a lot of guys have achived out of the old dated 4g63
So of these are simply a work of art. some ..well ... are like mine.

Anyway I thought I might put a few details up on the  , :( and :fuuuuu: of what I have dubbed "Racing PROjECT"
projects seldom get finished hey ...

History: pruchased the car as a standard aussie delivered 1994 GSR (second hand) from some dude down in Sydney
it was in decent nic apart from a stuffed clutch and a bit of a knock about the pass rear wheel arch.

Anyway drove the beasty home back to Queensland with the slipping clutch with out any troubles (apart from completely obliterating a wild Budgerigar on my front head light)
the headlight still has the bullseye hit on it. thought I'd leave the scar..

There were a few minor mods over time, I grafted a Vf23 from a Subbie onto the 1.8ltr air intake all the normal mods you would do.

Then I decided to put a 2 litre in it. Oh my gosh... it transformed it into one of the best most fun money pits you could imagine.
I'm sure if I had not bought it, I would be driving around in my AUDI RS4 by now.

OK .. where do I start .... the 1/2 cut had every Conceivable panel dinted , I think the asian dude that owned it in japan had one last but very exciting ride, although I didn't find any blood or body parts in it. But lets face it all I wanted was the motor.

After fitting the motor I found out that all the bearings were stuffed and it had Severe thrust bearing failure (crankwalk) It was fixed under warranty 3 times, bearings twice, removal of balance shafts, new crank.
3 months down the track - engine knock (piston slap)

O screw this ..... and the rest is history.

Currently this is what is fitted and been done.

BLOCK
squared, machined, de bured, grouted, Balance shafts removed
new OEM oil pump, water pump, ARP head & mains studs
mech timing belt tensioner, ceramic coated JE pistons (20thou higher crown than CP pistons)
de bured, eagle rods, stroked 2.4 crank, reshaped and flow tested oil squirters.
fluidamper harmonic.

HEAD
Ported, new valves std size, new bronze guides
de bured internals, E3 Hydraulics, Kelford 264/272 cams, Ebay special adjustable cam gears
HKS head gasket, large custom plenum with 70mm throttle body

GEARBOX
debured, detailed gears, isotropic polished. preloads set, 3.5 ratio LSD diff
details and polished shift rails, double synco 1/2/3 rd
4 spider center and probably other stuff in there that \i have forgotten about.
Quarter Master twin plate clutch with modified cover so that the clutch fork fits correctly

BRAKES
AP 4 pot calipers, braded lines, DS 2500 pads
330mm rotors

TURBO
Garrett GT3086 BB, machined & hiflowed compressor cover - with surge slots
External Tial gate. And Cast SS manifold that the name excapes me?
4 x EGT sensors

FUEL
walbro 255 feeding a custom under car surge tank with twin Bosch 044 pumps duel -6 fuel lines to 4 ID2000 injectors
and edelbrock fuel reg (same as SX)
e85 fuel - flex fuel sensor fitted for correct ethanol contect detection.
twin russell micro fuel filters

IGNITION
4 x LS1 coils - hand made ign wires -coz I had too
and spark plugs -

ECU & ACCESSORIES
Haltech PS1000 ECU with TC4 box, expander hub extra I/O box
flex fuel sensor for e85
anti lag / launch control (havent tested yet sounds too scary 14psi @ 4500rpm) sounds nothing like normal launch on an EVO

BODY & SUSPENSION
fully adjustable external cantister BC coilovers, rallyart strutbrace <-- probably the only mitsubish part not modified.
canards, front splitter, butchered front bar, legal height of 100mm 17" wheels of some breed that I painted (I have 2 sets one with street tires and one with track tires)

Currently waiting to fit it in at the tuners to get final power figures - not that i'm chasing numbers.

It's not very pretty to look at but drives quite nicel on the street.

the last pump tune yeilded 275 kws ATW @ 18psi
so i'm keen to see what it now does with 24psi, e85 and bigger coils

here are some failures I've had

what a good Quarter Master friction plate should look like
good friction plate.jpg
this is a worn one!
bad fristion plate.jpg

Thrust bearing failure
Thrust failure.jpg
needless to say the crank was rooted!

I still have no idea how this happened
something somewhere somehow
something thru the turbo.jpg

I have also had cam gears break and lunch a head. <-- AEM although I was told wow never seen that happen, there were quite a few people on the net with the same issue. Got my money back for the gears but nothing for the $1000 worth of repairs to the head

ring lans come off CP pistons - I have a couple of cool paper weights! and one brand new one!

ECU's freak out and fill all four pots with raw fuel. <- haltech fixed this for me free of charge (great guys!)

with out failure how can we learn?

So you DO own a car and not just talking it up TIC lol.... savng the pics now as proof mate :P
Nice to see it Troy. I know this car rocks and makes some good power, plus you're pretty cluey with the Haltech too.
That anti-lag system sounds like good fun. Im thinking the e85 and an extra 6psi boost is going to get you around 340kw atw

nice one Troy! i like it mate, I'm with Rob, you should be well into the 300's with some boost in it. (I hope you are anyway as I have a similar setup and want 350kw...maybe with some more boost though)

I'd be happy with 340
Lakeside was awesome with 275 , but i was still having to slow down to 220 for the kink.
I guess I just need more nuts for the brakes (bit more faith in them) I'd better ask the misses if I can have them back out of her purse next time i go.

I think on 24psi and E85, you should be sitting around the 360/370kw mark

Damn straight
Troy, with E85 Ive seen a 300kw 98 pump engine turn into a 400kw E85 monster, so dont be surprised if we're talking low power figures at the moment, because with the right tune and setup the only way is up

Troy, Ive got an E8 ECU with patch loom at the moment and will be contemplating getting the PS1000 with flex fuel sensor in future myself.
Have you played around with it to see how the ethanol/98 pump fuel automatic mixture mapping works yet?
