I decided today that I would remove the climate control from my EVO II as I know longer require it. I have since found that it isn't a plug in loom but integrated through out the whole dash loom.

Is there an easy way to remove this or should I just be leaving the wiring where it is and removing all the other items?

Also I have heard that removing the heater box can cause the cooling system to run differently due to the reduced capacity? Any thoughts on this?

Have people blocked the pipes on the back of the engine or do you use a u bend inside the vehicle to ensure the flow is continuous?

I am contemplating installing a GL setup incase I compete in the wet. Assuming I will need to take power from the climate control loom?

Also what is the climate control boxes and face worth these days?

Alternatively I just put everything back in and forget that I even started this.

hey hypo i'm interested in bits and pieces of the system esp the resistor in the condenser box. to keep demister controls you'd also need the fan and condenser boxes left in place. i'd be happy to swap you my std climate system plus some $$.

In order Luke,

the extra bits in the loom are minimal, but you could use an RS loom.

with regards to removing the heater box I wouldnt worry too much about it overheating, if it does its very borderline already.

you loop the heater hose under the bonnet, they are one above the other.

yes, you will need to power the fan switch.

I gave mine away in the end lol

On a side note do you still have the A/C evaporator in? if so you can remove that and fit the cross over pipe from a cc lancer with no A/C, a good weight saving there.
Then keep the heater and blower box in for the wet.

or remove the lot and fit a small demister system designed for a really old car(rally guys do this).......................or a heated front screen(or this)

good weight savings to be had though

no A/C cars have the duct that allows the condensor to be removed :)

I have one of those ducts that replace the condensor.

Back in the old days....yep I m old.....we used to fit heaters from a ancient honda civic I think. ....anyway what ever they were they were electric and looked like a hairdryer.

Is there any value in changing the heater box from the EVO to a GL one or are they all the same?

weight wise the only difference is the motors on the side that control the flaps (very light) so if you do want to leave a heater box in then there is no point

I've gone the no heater/fan/AC and use anti-fog on the windscreen option.

The wiring challenge combined with re-installing the heater and fan was too much of a headf**k for me.

I got rid of all of our heater box etc. I just run 4 12v CPU type fans mounted on the stock runners under the dash, it provides enough airflow to demist the dash quite well. I'm sure I have pics somewhere.

Like George said, loop the coolant heater lines back around, works fine

I'd be keen on seeing your demist setup too Lewis when you get around to posting pics.

Just change the interior and dash and door looms over for a GSR or something. Also the fan boxes under the dashboard.
Im sure someone with a GSR would like fold away mirrors, climate control, etc
Full working evo looms are rare as these days.

Just loop the existing, they are plent long enough.

The pics are not on my photobucket, so will have to have a look on the old hard drive at home.

I only just put the dash back in a few weeks ago :(

Other option would be to get a little aftermarket motorsport heater/demister (about $400).

No reason why you cant use one of the existing hoses...you may need to cut a bit off to stop it kinking thats all.
