A/C Delete

I decided to remove my aircon as it was empty and I Havnt used it in years.
Got everything out fine, but the pump is still in there until I find a belt I can use solely for power steering pump.
Can anyone who's done this tell me a belt or part number which would suit.
It's on a 93.

I will try the string method. I do have a spare belt from my glxi which went straight to ac pump as it didn't have power steering. Hopefully that works.
I did think about the rain/heat, but as I said I Havnt used aircon in years, so I guess I will learn my lesson one day but right now I don't mind.

What is the reason to pull it out though? Is this a track car you don't drive day to day or are you putting something in which is in the way of the condensor or are you searching for the elusive 1kw gain you might make by removing the a/c compressor?

There are a couple of reasons.
Main one is I had been having overheating problems, and although I know it's not directly caused by the condenser or broken ac fan, having the most flow of cooler air to my radiator definitely helped. I Havnt had it heat up since.
Number 2 is to create more room.
The way the air con hoses were placed I could not access my oil filter from the top of engine bay.
And thirdly, I don't use it. So I figured why not.

If you are going to leave it out have you atleast covered all the ends correctly as I am guessing you have removed your dash and taken everything else out. This will ensure that it can all go back together smoothly.

In all honesty removing it is a mistake in my opinion. I would look at your cooling issues and replace the items you have removed as you are just masking a bigger issue.
If you are going to leave it out have you atleast covered all the ends correctly as I am guessing you have removed your dash and taken everything else out. This will ensure that it can all go back together smoothly.
All that was removed was all hoses in engine bays, ends into firewall blocked up, condensor and AC fan.
Pump is still there, and whatever is under the dash is still there.
It just seems pointless to me to have a big fan that is motionless sitting in front of my radiator along with a condensor which now is more like a bug filter.
I understand what your saying about masking a bigger issue, but it has just seemed to work so well.
At the same time, i also did a thermostat change, and a radiator flush in the same weekend.
Maybe i just went overboard trying to have a reliable car.

There is figuratively thousands of cc gsr's/evo/lancers on our roads at the moment with air-con that do not have heating issues.
What are your heating symptoms e.g. when does it overheat? At traffic lights? On long drivers?
Changing a thermostat and flushing the fluid will do very little to overall performance of the cooling system.
Probably a lot better to try and diagnose that issue.
I for one don't really care if you have a/c or not. However for a road car you do need the heating ability for demisting.
Nothing i can really pinpoint.
I drove it 10 hours straight when i bought the car and it was fine.
Its very random, last time it happened, a few weeks ago i was driving up the coast to my parents, about 8 or 9 at night, so not hot weather.
It just starts rising, and i have to switch the fan on, and turn the heater on.
Other times it has happened on short drives on a very hot day.

umm my gsr doesnt have a/c and it demists fine, its only the a/c hoses disconnected, not heater yeah??
and how did ya thermostat look when ya took it out?? mine done the same about 3 years ago all cos my thermostat was effed, about 7 years ago it did a similiar thing except the car wasnt actually getting hot, fault was a short, a dozen vbs for my sparky and it was all good again

Yep, its only the A/C hoses i took out, i was out driving around all morning today (its cold and raining in brissy today) and dimisting all still works fine.
The thermostat did look old, but i never tested it, just replaced it.
I do still have it in a toolbox somewhere so i might test it to see if that was actually gone.

It doesnt come on.
The guy i bought the car from had rewired it to have a switch as he overheated one day and cracked the head.
But most days i just turn the fan on as soon as i start driving.
Should i look into eliminating the switch and returning it to the stock way?
