Yeah there should be a thermo static switch in the bottom of the rad just take the wire he usede for the switch and mate them to the thermostatic switch and all will be right with the world

The switch is fine. As long as everyone who drives it is aware. And no one forgets.
My mrs friends car, I hard wired the fan to acc. No problems last 2 years its been like that

I would be getting rid of the switch setup and getting it to come on manually.
Only takes one time to forget/or not see the temp rise and your motors fucked.

Plus if its running too cool (ie not at normal operating temps according to the ecu / sensor) the ecu will be altering the way the car runs to accomodate for the cooler temp.

Even with an aftermarket aluminium rad?

I know what you guy's mean though.
I keep a very close eye on it on normal day to day driving, but if im out on a bit of a spirited run, it's not always easy to watch it constantly.

To finish this up for anyone wondering, a gates pk5945 worked very well.
