Power steering delete/manual conversion
#1

My GSR is now a dedicated track car and as the car is stripped down due to broken gearbox. I was wondering if anyone has removed or converted there power steering to manual or thinking of doing it.
My main concern is how hard the steering would be with 235+ semis and under hard acceleration is it would be all over the place.

Imo you will struggle to drive it. Grippy 235s plus a heap of castor (if you can get it) will all make power steer obligatory.

How did you get 235 semis under the rear guards?

Try driving one with the belt broken. Trust me you want that power steering there! and with the tyres you described even more so! If I were you I would be looking at putting in a better cooler for the system though.
if you have a manual trans see if your radiator has lines for cooling auto trans fluid and use that
yes it's me KHUBNER

A track car will cook its steer fluid so its working pretty hard.

The other option was to put a small oil cooler in the front to help it keep cool
Just go to the gym..

Yeah they do but it's a million turns lock to lock
It easier to turn when the rack has no oil and looped hoses. I ran no p/s in my gsr, I loved it at speed it felt way more stable, it was a bit heavy on slow hair pins. That was on 225/50/16 semis, the problem with the lancer manual racks is that its about 100 turns lock to lock.
So it runs dry?
I thought about it but left it in. You would need a gl lancer rack. Are you also getting rid of the abs? I have done 100 km on the national track at qr and didn't boil the fluid.

Abs is long gone, as for 235's lot of massaging and probably bolt on flares till I can afford dougmo's widebody

Nah I got aftermarket radiator,

Do you have the 235s on the rear yet?
Sorry I meant to say I want to run 235+ tires. Currently have 225/45/16 on 16x8 +30

I am trying to keep the rears as standard as possible in the event that I want to run the car at Targa at some point so no flares.
I currently run a 215/45/17 DZ03G and I can't get a wider semi slick on. I want 235's as they are cheaper.
When you manage to achieve it I would be interested to see how you go. I assume you are going to run a 15mm+ spacer on the front? With a 235 RE55 on the front it was hitting my coilovers on standard EVO VI wheels.

the problem with the lancer manual racks is that its about 100 turns lock to lock.
Assuming that's not an issue where could I find a manual RHD rack for sale that will fit the Evo 123?

You might just like to convert your power rack or get a spare to mod

I'd keep the power steering if it was me.

As above. Gl lancer. Any base model cc lancer without power steering.

Can you provide the specific models and years that have the RHD manual racks that bolt up to the Evo subframe? Thanks
