Hey!

I'm about to rebuild my 63 thats been sitting patiently waiting, except now its just gunna be done on the cheap, now that ive got the evo the gsr is getting delegated back to daily duties so ive been looking at options on how to do a reliable clean start/ driver, soooo,

heres what im thinking/ trying,
evo 9 pistons,
evo 9 valve springs and retainers,
evo 8mr cams
evo 8 560 quad sprays
evo 2/3 turbo

and all the obvious arp/ acl bits, seals all ya usual replace stuff
ill have another set of kelford cam gears soon which have the dowel hole for the evo and dsm

now as for the computer, im still abit undecided, i have a ltx 8 but was thinkin of maybe just using a 7 computer, dunno

the other thing ill need is the balance shaft delete kit,

but other than that does anyone have any pointers or tips, ya know, the sort of heads up stuff that i might be over looking, if ya wondering why with something, speak up,

i gotta million things running through my head but we'll just start with this

If you are robbing bits off a evo9, I will put my hands up for the intake cam and intake cam wheel.

I could be wrong but with this being in the 1-3 section...??
If hes hoping to do this to the early 4g63t then the cams and turbo hes listed wont work with the early engine.

oop my bad turbo was a mind blank moment, i was thinkin of mashing somthing up but its just a 20g td-05

and im not sure how hard it'll be to fit the cams, ive heard a few different theorys like swapping the exh to the int for the cas or cutting a slot for it, either way i got em for next to nothing so im game to try

I guess, it all depends how extreme you want to get? Power figure goals? Budget? (lol) What vehicle you are fitting it in?

Would you like fries with that?

Yes but I did see a 4g93t cc gsr on car sales a while ago with a tomei arms turbo kit installed. Was pointing the correct way.Correct me if I'm
Wrong but what's to stop it being turned 180degrees?? The later housing are twin scroll but surely someone could fabricate a manifold or maybe there is something available off the shelf?? Surely the dsm guys in the states would have something??

You could, but then you would have to also think about the power steering pump and alternator, then an intake pipe in an enclosed area without alot of airflow for cooling, then squeeze in a filter somewhere. Then your exhaust side needs modification to swing under the sump, new water/oil lines, etc. I guess it comes down to is it's easier to keep it the right way around!

ok what I meant was the tomei arms was the correct way around for the cc gsr so everything was in the same place. So you'd be turning the 3G turbo around 180 degrees to point the correct way for the 1g or 2g engine. All you'd have to do is rotate the compressor housing so the compressor outlet was pointing out toward the cooler rather than toward the engine or just swap the compressor housing.Twin scroll turbo would spool nice

yea dont get me wrong, one of my bro's back home had a twin scroll on his 3, i am contemplating it but ill have to chat with jayrome about a manifold,

like i said, budget build with the stuff laying around here,
evo 9 pistons,
evo 9 valve springs and retainers,
evo 8mr cams
evo 8 560 quad sprays
all added up to around $200, so power... what ever it is im sure it'll be sweet for a daily!!

I think it would make a killer street car. Id go evo 9 rods too but defiantly use a late reflashed ecu. Iv made a couple of twin scroll tdo5 manifolds to suit the early evo's and they fit in like factory. I also run evo 8 aftermarket cams with a new cas slot. I would go bigger injectors though, decaped wrx injectors are good for a budget and are 820cc and are about $100 for my last set.

Based on you saying it was a budget build, I would have thought a custom manifold would add significant cost to the project.
I've read a fair bit online about people running evo x twin scrolls with the titanium compressor wheel, they face the correct way but would still require a custom manifold or at least a different flange to fit.
There's a thread on one of the DSM forums from the states where a guy ran one of these on a 1/2g 4g63t with awesome results.
Might be an idea if you can find one of course...!

yea bro, very true about it being a budget build, thats why its still all a thought i have the 20g to put on but its just a bit tired, thats why i would only get a custom manifold from Jay
and yea thanks caged thats a definate good thought with the injectors, i was leaning toward the 7 ecu but thought i better ask the question, im hoping its gunna be some fun,

oh i forgot to mention its the Evo 9 pistons and rods! I just presume everyone knows... Stupid me! Lol
