Hi guys.
Just wondering the power capabilities of a standard gsr box before things start to break. I'm about to give the box a freshen up and will be looking at 350 to 380 kw. Just some previous experience from other members would be great.

cant speak out of experience so dont know How good info i can give but talkin to my mate he was saying they dont have the double synchro's on 1st an 2nd or is it 2nd and 3rd, i think you'll find the input shaft will let go, and my mate has problems with 4th ring gear, im sure someone will correct me,
also a point to note it was with 400 atw he kept breaking Evo boxes so he dropped it down to i think 360 and it seems to last a bit better

They say a 2.3 has enough grunt to strip the teeth off 4th gear. So maybe 275kw atw?
But that is all the torque from the stroker. A 2.0 might need 300kw to do the same damage.
But in saying that, a dickhead driving style will destroy a box very quickly.
Rev limiter drops, flat changes, bad launches, etc will kill it with a stock engine.

I'm running a 2.3 the car was making 315 kw on pump. It will be going in for a 85 tune once I put the gearbox back in so I'm thinking I should strengthen the box while I have it out of the car

Get an EVO 2 gearbox and use the GSR crown to change it to 3.545

Yeah read that thread evl basically says newcatle or meek. Spoke to Chris at meek yesterday wanted between $2500 to $2700 for a rebuild and a center lsd. Does that sound about right?

the centre lsd would almost be half of that in cost

My gearbox was built by chris I think he did a good job but in saying that I stripped 4th gear last year at a trackday. I think it came down to the gear strength rather then person who built it. I'm running a 2.3 with 360kw.

Thanks pad. Is that a gsr box or evo 2 or 3 box? How far did you go with the rebuild just bearing, syncros etc etc etc or did you throw in a lsd to?

It's a GSR box with vr4 gear set, evo selector forks, new 1st-2nd gear and syncros and cusco front diff.

In a nutshell the gearset itself is just as strong as any other W5M33. The non LSD GSR boxes have lightweight synchros and weaker selectors.
As mentioned; 4th gear is an issue once you go over 300kW.
