Iv got my motor out to replace it and am going 2 lighten the fly wheel while its out. I normally just aim 2 take 10% of the original weight off. Is this ok or is there a better way??

my first one i took 15% off, then about 25%.. now im at about 35%...
you can take shitloads out,
and yes, i checked it all out with an automotive and mechanical engineer, they said it was still very safe

a member on here used what you posted i think they had to get custom flywheel bolts cut because the evo fly uses a larger bolt than the 93

I will have to check that...I thought they are the same with the exception being the 93 is longer than the 63

Im bit tight 4 cash atm. Can lighten myself 4 free and would rather spend da cash on evo injectors, afm and ecu. Think ill just aim 4 the 35% at this stage. Thanx any way. Will up date this after machining.

That would be me, I had to get custom bolts machined. They are different from the 4G63T bolts and the stock bolts are way to short. But it runs great now. Although the clutch engagement has become quite rough with the light flywheel. Also I don't notice massive difference in acceleration but all bits help I suppose

Machined it up Friday. Weighed 8kg at the start brought it down to 6.4kg and there is still plenty of meat left on it. Was aiming for 6kg but it was 2am, I wasn't on the clock any more and couldn't b bothered clocking it up again.

I balanced it as well. Using 2 levild streight edgers, machined up a carrier shaft and puttig weighted magnets on till its balanced then removeind the equlivent weight from opesit side of magnets by drilling.
