I noticed today a weird noise when I push the clutch in.

Whilst stationary and I push the clutch in and rev the engine I get a metallic rattle. It does not make noise till 2500rpm.

While driving there is no noise until when I change gear and have the clutch in and the rpm drops to 2500rpm.

Any ideas would be great.

is it a twin plate?...yes....they rattle ...normal. unless really loud.

If its a single plate...could be the springs loose in the clutch hub, I had that on an exedy .....didnt last long after it started making the noise as one went walkabout and made LOTS of noise.

Yeah single plate, it was replaced early last year.

Looks like the box may have to come out, yay.

I have a tinny noise when idling and clutch is off. After some net searching I found that most aftermarket clutch/flywheels have what that call clutch chatter or gearbox chatter. Standard on evo's.

I do know the noise you are talking about but I don't have a noise when idling, only once The engine is at 2500rpm with the clutch pedal depressed.

Hope not, but I suspect clutch. It's funny , at 2500rpm noise is there but at 3000rpm noise is gone.

are you sure its the clutch and not some other bracket or exhaust clamp or something just vibrating.... Clutches arent usually going to make a noise at 2500 and stop at 3000

can you get someone to hold it at 2500 and you trace the noise?

I was thinking that tonight. I going to take to mate that has a hoist and was a mechanic at mitsubishi a few year ago. He has had a few vr4's back in NZ.

Thanks for your replies.

as Brian was saying, i think it might be a bracket or something exhaust related, i had a heat shield bust off the spot weld and it had a similar sound to what ya describing

Looks like I was wrong. It's was the heat shield on the turbo manifold.

Thanks guys for the replies.
