I took a bit of time to clean up some of the casting marks in the inlet ports of the head. The head was already ported but I just wanted to clean it up a bit more before fitting it as I noticed a few imperfections. I then cleaned and re fitted the cams, lifters and rollers and bolted it to the block with a new head gasket using ARP head studs.
Also fitted the timing belt and pulleys/tensioners. Not massive progress but she's starting to look like a real engine now...
Ported inlet...
Cleaned head with valves and springs fitted...
Assembly lube, not pretty but it works...!
Fresh head gasket and ARP head studs ready to bolt head down.
Head bolted down and tensioned...
One cam...
Two cams...
Belts & tensioners, water pump, oil pump etc...
Almost and engine...
This weekend I'll be starting to strip the current engine out of the car to swap over everything else that's required to bolt her in.
Getting there slowly but surely...

No turning back now...
It's really hard to look at this picture without feeling a little bit sick...
Gearbox is being sent off this week for new synchros and to have the LSD fitted, next week will be spent cleaning the sump out, start porting the stock manifold for the 20g and then finish off fitting everything needed to put the new engine in.
Getting closer...

I'm considering getting the intercooler piping powder coated in black wrinkle finish like the rocker cover.

It was a bit of a stuff around sorting out the oil & water lines as I was using a combination of the kit that came with the turbo, existing fittings from the td04 and new hoses.
Ignore the hose going in next to the water outlet, that's just sitting there to be measured and cut.

I might look into the heat sleeve though, do you just use braided stuff or the foil type?

Finally in the engine bay!
Gearbox in and plumbing dummied up
It is really tight with the radiator in there but everything seems to be clearing JUST!.
Next up:
- Enlarge cold side of cooler to 2.5"
- Make up cold side plumbing
- Make up exhaust
- Make new battery mount.
It's getting there...

rocket cover and intake came out pretty nice I was planning to do the same thing but have it powdercoated but if you just used the vht spray cans and they came out that good I might do that aswell

I've also done the manifold cover in black VHT - The plan is to make everything look as factory as possible.

I've actually bolted a small plate to the block now that holds the hose away from the turbo so it's not too close to the exhaust housing or the dump pipe. It's heater hose so I'm hoping it'll be ok. I used the same stuff on the old engine and it seemed to be ok.
I might look into the heat sleeve though, do you just use braided stuff or the foil type?
I used the Speedflow braided sleeve over my rubber water lines, it looks alot neater than the foil wrap IMO.
I'm really liking how the engine turned out - it looks really neat.
