Pulled the car down off the stands finally. I forgot how low it actually sits as it's been 2ft in the air for the past 6 months.
Took a few more pics just for the sake of it...
Definitely needs a wash.
Engine bay in sunlight with new Ultra Racing strut brace.
Bonnet back on - looks better without it IMO
Trial fitted the front bar. The oil cooler behind front grille and black silicone hoses give it a factory look.

Looks good! Boost time soon!
Few things:
Are you going to re-mesh the front bar for more stealth or has it never had it on like your first pics?
Are you going to heat wrap the intercooler pipe near the manifold?
How hard was it to tap the oil feed line into that head? I have a GTI engine in my garage and I was wondering how you would do it considering that its blocked.
Cheers
BTW... does anyone else have a sore ass??

Won't be re meshing the front bar, I had thought about this but as the intercooler sits quite far forward I've already had to trim back the front bar so to get the mesh back in there I'd need to trim it back more and I don't want it getting flimsy through the middle section. Also, seeing as it's already been trimmed the tabs where the mesh was connected have been cut off.
I havent had any heat soak issues with the over the manifold pipe as it sits quite far forward rather than travelling directly across the top of the manifold - it kind of twists toward the radiator.
As for the oil feed to the head, this is actually a GSR engine so it already had the oil feed on the front of the head. I believe you can drill and tap a feed into the GTi head, it's kind of blanked off where it should go but you can see where to drill. The way I had it set up before was just to fit a brass T-piece into the head where the oil pressure sender screws in. I've got this on the new engine but run an oil pressure gauge to the fitting now.

Ok guys, dropped the car off at Mick's Motorsport yesterday and just received a call from him saying it's ready to be picked up!
Turns out there was a few wiring issues and had two dead coils.
Car made 210kW at the wheels, not a bad effort on the little 20G turbo!
I'll be picking it up tomorrow and we'll see how it feels to drive.
Hoping it hangs together now….

Thanks guys.
Definitely going to try and get this thing out on the track soon. I was spewing I never raced the old setup as a comparison.
To be honest I was expecting a little more out of it but I guess the engine has heaps more potential with a bigger hair dryer.
Until I drive it and feel how it pulls with the 67% odd power increase I won't really know.

Hey guys, below is video of the exhaust note, it is actually really loud, although Mick did a great job dialing in the cams so the idle is nice and steady and not overly lumpy.
http://s13.photobuck...8f1a7d.mp4.html
The dyno sheet shows power sort of coming on at around 5,000rpm however this was in 4th gear so it was expected to be laggy and Mick explained that boost will hit a lot earlier on the street. Torque is considerably down which was disappointing looking at the dyno chart alone, and I think the cams are causing it mostly as the turbo isn’t huge.
Power does peak at 210kw, however for most of the time it’s sitting around 190-200kw range.
Changed the oil yesterday and refitted the front bar. At the moment I’ve got the thermo fan bridged to run constantly as I don’t have a thermo switch in the top radiator hose – waiting for that to come in so I can wire it up.
Finally took it out for a spin last night (keeping to speed limits), I was very cautious so not giving it too much at all. Compared to the previous setup it’s chalk and cheese. I’ve gone from being used to a very snappy high comp low boost setup to a setup that is very doughy off boost. I was expecting this, however when boost comes on at around 4,000rpm all hell breaks loose and the thing takes off like a rocket. Basically the boost and the cams come on all at once. I’ll need to learn how to drive it again to keep the revs in the power band. The lag does help with traction along with the new lsd, which is still very very crunchy – hoping this will bed in, and be less clunky as time goes on.

We got the car out on a long private road later in the day and managed to hit 150klmph in third gear which I thought wasn’t bad.
Found a coolant leak last night when we brought the car back in, I suspect it’s coming from the hose off the turbo, nothing huge but something we’ll need to address, otherwise the car seems to be running well and very happy with Mick’s work, highly recommended!

Thanks BMGTZ, I'll look into it. The lsd is insanely clunky, it's almost embarrassing having people looking at you like you're driving a car around with thrashed CVs.
Thanks ted, it's been a long time in the build - one day a week, every Sunday for over 12months! Still unsure about whether I'm happy with the results, I'll need to drive it more before I make up my mind.

The diff is brand new, haven't done any of that, yesterday was the first drive we took the car for just to test the engine out more than anything.
What's the normal procedure? I thought it would bed in over time just from normal driving?

google the cusco break in procedure and do that...BEFORE putting that additive I suggested in. It is pretty much just doing a lot of tight turns off power to sort of polish the plates a bit....or take off the high spots.
