hey guys,
just noticing now in my car there is no oil pressure light on start up. you know when you are about to crank it over from the "on" position. once i start it up, car starts and then dies. Restart it and she stays on. i thought at first it might be cos its cold mornings. and now im noticing a grinding type sound from what sounds like passenger side, bottom end(4g63t vr4 motor). deep grinding sound. is it main bearings? or oil pump? or GG motor?
cheers

is it a metallic sound, like knocking or more a rubbing /scrapping / grinding noise like you said?

My mate had a similar grinding noise on the passenger side of his vr4 ..it turned out to be the harmonic balancer spining off its seal and rubbing against the chassis rail which soon after caused major problems.

Personally I wouldnt be driving it around anymore until you can a get someone of profession to come over and check it out, to determine the problem seeing it relates to oil pressure and engine sounds... better safe than sorry if you can avoid further damage, do so.

First....fix the light. Check it works in the dash by grounding the terminal to earth with the ignition on. iof the light comes on....then it is either a bad connection to the pressure sender{common for the little screw that holds the terminal on to work loose} or a dud sender in which case replace it.

engines make a lot of noises but mostly they knock not make a grinding noise. check all the idler pullies and the alternator. do that by removing the belts and start the engine....if noise is gone you know where to look.
