Ok, I have a 94 L300 express van daily with a 4G64 efi 2.4ltr, It has just unfortunately dropped it's guts on the road, So, as the price of these motor 2nd hand are through the roof, I just bought a wrecked 2004 L300 van with a 4G63 efi (2.0L??) Wondering if there would be anything to create an issue in swapping these over, I have the plan of using the motor (obviously) gearbox, harness and ecu etc, Also, one of the main questions I have is, Will the exhaust manifold from the 4G64 fit the 4G63? also, more importantly, as I wish to bung on a turbo soon to the new motor, What manifold/s can be used? I have been told the exhaust bolt pattern is the same between the SOHC & the DOHC, can somebody please clarifly this as I have heard mixed story's, I only plan on going with a very mild setup as it is a daily hack, Thanks, Chris.

Hi there, I am not sure about the 94 L300 vans. But all the early mid to late 80's L300 vans used small bolt up engines so the VR4 4G63 will go straight in if it is a small boltup pattern gearbox, and the early gearboxes were a rod linkage setup with two levers on the side of the gearbox which means that they wer van specific only. As far as manifolds are concerned, DOHC are completely different manifolds than the SOHC ones so you can't interchange between them. I think there was a guy on this site not long ago that I returned a reply about gearboxes because he had a van that he had already turbo'd. Try looking at some earlier posts as well.

OK thanks for that, So far we have discovered the 94 model has a hydraulic clutch while strangely enough, The 04 model has a cable clutch, May also be wheel base pacific? My 94 is a lwb high roof with the walk through, while the 04 is a swb with single door, Does anyone know of a turbo manifold that bolts to the later model 4G63 SOHC??

Oh ok, Thanks, I have not yet pulled the motor apart to inspect it, it was making a large noise and it let all of it's smoke out, And we all know that motor's and electrics are built with just the right amount of smoke in them and if you let any of it out.... :P Looking like the 4G63 will also be sold as the amount to change over is rediculous, hydraulic - cable clutch, entire wiring harness (as they don't separate from ecu) fuse box, exhaust manifold, massive job just for an old van lol, would be not much more work to stick an engine conversion job into it, which is where it might end up, Looking into a 1JZ motor at the moment

Maybe this will go in yours?
Just compare your manifolds. Or bolt your head onto it.
This will be a narrow block so check yours and your head bolt holes will need to be enlarged.
Though I think I have a na evhaust if you need.
I have a intake too, but the tb is broken

I'm in the process of finishing up a 4g63 rvr engine conversion in a L300 awd 1997 efi model , which was fitted with a 4g64 wide block , if you can source the motor loom and ecu and your interested in this conversion 6 bolt vr4 would be ideal , but it's not gona be cheap lot of work involved the hardest part being the gearbox cut and shut as we have retained the awd running gear.

only thing left to finish is the wiring of the wolf ecu and dyno tune, should be the fastest AWD L300 van with 4g63 twin cam on stock bottom end, stock cams, with wolf ecu, td04 on 10 psi , 2.5 inch stainless steel exhaust , stock radiator, stock injectors in Australia , aye  is that a class ?? oh well it is now :P

I've got a evo engine that needs rebuilding, I'm thinking slight increase in stroke with a longer rod je + 0.20's steam pipe manifold , hypertune intake, T04z, 150 shot should do the trick

no but seriously if your interested just check out the build thread , I haven't made one yet but I will try and do it tonight .

The 350 Stato is of nothing too special, it was a user name I used a long time ago and for ease of things and to help my small mind, It just kind of stuck, I unfortunately, no longer have the car, But it was a fun car, and surprisingly quick for the big old hulk lol, As for the van, We have since sold off the 2.0L motor and the van is on the back burner for now, Looking more towards the 1jz/ Barra falcon motor conversion now as i would like to use it for towing my trailer

Hey mate,

Talking about a L300 van i have one the same , I purchased it witha turbo on it but not running , I used the 64 block got a forged crank of Ebay for $500 manley rods and piston from u.s  for a $1000 and had it put back together for $2000. I purchased a brand new head from Ebay $500 i think sent it to head shop and built to suit turbo $500. Got a turbo exhaust manifold of a cordia and tdo5 turbo and blolted it on hooked up some water and oil lines with an exhaust and  microtech ecu and all works fine. Ive just towed a fully loaded encloed car trailer sydney to melbourne and adelaide and did it with out a sweat.

It really depends on what head your going to use a SOHC 8-12 v can use cordia turbo parts or SOHC 16v + DOHC 16v run the same gear so evo vr4 and can use trition intake manifold to swap from front/all wheel drive to rear wheel drive so yeah it can be done easy

Digging up an old thread, I've not been here for quite some time, (only to pop in for quick info) The van ^^ up there, Is about to be dragged from it misery, and looks quite sad too after sitting since.. well, then ^^

Anyway, I'm after some info for the diff on these things, from what I can tell, the diff will be something stupid like 4.6 ratio, which will suck, also being open wheel, will also suck more...

is there an availble center/diff for these with a decent ratio and LSD option? Hoping for around the 3.2-3.5 area..

I have the new motor and box combo and work will start this year (although slowly as i've another project on the go aswell) I have a 1JZ motor and A340e auto, the motor has small 256 cams, and will be wearing a Garrett GT35R somewhere, (where ever it fits...) The auto is apparently shift kitted but will no doubt end up with the MV manual valve body from one of my other cars when the powerglide goes in, so hence, needing diff gears to not rev it's tits orf, and not spin 1 wheel everywhere...

This will still become a daily driver

Also, side note, I've found the LWB 94 L300 (what mine is) has an apparent 1500kg towing capacity (braked) can anyone shed some knowledgable light on this?

Thanks.
