It's an oil leaking, lifter ticking, over boosting, suspension knocking hunk of junk, but I had to have it. Everywhere I look, it needs work.

Being the first car I've had with over 35bhp (not a misprint).

Previous P-plate mobile, AE80 1.3L 4 speed man.

It's weird, I love how hard of a life it's had. It's been utterly unmaintained with service intervals ranging from 20,000km to never. Hell for a car to need a replacement engine at only 80,000kms you must be doing something right/wrong!

I've no idea on what direction this car will take; but as my previous car would agree with, it will be an adventurous direction.

I will keep this updated starting with basic tidy up and moving on to modifying eventually when permanent work becomes available.

'Vorks', apparently. Will save up the dosh for some silver Enkei RPF01's in something like 16x8 or similar sleeper look eventually.

It has 2x Yokohamas, 1x Hercules and 1x Altrezzo tyres on it. Pioneer Head unit just packed it in, also worked out the boost controller is mounted by two bits of Blu-Tac in between a piece of card!

Worst part is that it's currently my daily driver until we can round up a late model immaculate auto Lancer for the mrs!

Best part is that I got a genuine evo 3 bonnet and sideskirts with it to sell to make up some of the millions that have to be spent.

All poking fun aside, the car is a genuinely undamaged, 90% rust free car(standard roof issue) which is the main reason it was purchased.

Beers with mates over the weekend will help us figure out which direction the build will take. Possibly IPRA, Targa spec or perhaps just a club level toy. Unfortunately one of those mates is heavily involved in Targa Tas, so everything will be done to a poofteenth of perfect. Focus will be first to sorting out bugs, then on to making the car handle, then on to making it look pretty enough, then optimizing the power potential.

my advice for what it is worth.....keep the bonnet in case you choose to do a 4g63 conversion as it is needed to clear the cam belt cover being that the 63 is taller than the 93. BUT if you do want to sell...let me know please

Gave the old boost controller the flick, and threw in some 15w 50 Mobil synthetic with iridium plugs gapped at 0.8. Still a bit of a shudder under boost, but have a feeling it's the el-cheapo leads that are contributing to that. Also removed the Autotechnica gear knob and replaced it with a stock lancer one, which made the shifter mech feel 20,000x more solid/direct.

And to all those who asked for parts measurements, I've had 2 quite inebriated nights in a row and in no state to measure/price up postage. I'll measure up tomorrow ( I know I said that yesterday,sorry!) and will get them ASAP.

Next ill sort out the sump gasket and front lower engine mount. Eventually lifters and cut the exhaust tips down/re baffle the mufflers.

After purchasing these as I was wrongly told S13 SR stockies (which I had already purchased, thank you Nissan) are the same center bore, I came out this morning to drive a car with what I assumed were buggered CV/Wheel bearings.

It turns out every wheel nut bar my lock nuts were loose. But nevertheless the old girl looks 100% better. Gave her a wash over as it has been at my mechanics more than my driveway.

Next the exhaust tips will be cut down, front roll stopper mounted and sump gasket replaced.

Roof came up better than I thought, too!

for the steering wheel to look like that i suspect it's done alittle more than 80 000. hell my coupes done almost 300 and my wheel doesn't look like that. and qld sun is fecking harsh on plastics and vynils

It's done 190,000, but had 80k on it when it required a new engine.
Not a factory steering wheel either, and judging by the rest of the car was purchased second hand anyway.

Hell the car was under a tree when I picked it up!

Yep. Know the feeling. You stand back, look at it, and go "where the f*#ck do I start"! Got same model, but no rust. Atleast yours goes and is at your home. Mine is 3000km away locked away on yorke peninsula with 16,394 red back spiders guarding her! My advice, make a list and just fix things at a relaxed pace. Don't turn it into a chore and don't try to do everything at once. It will kill your budget! Oh, and no short cuts, unless you like fixing shit twice!

I wrote up a DIY sump seal , there is no gasket on the gsr 4g93t sump only sealant so get yourself some good sealant.

Awesome, clone! Honestly didn't even give the sump a look; just assumed it had a gasket! Makes a huge difference.

Warbo, most definitely agree. This is a labour of love, far from a chore. I've taken shortcuts with most things motoring previously, but as soon as work becomes permanent, it will be done once and done right.

My mates and I have decided the car will be my weekend track n back toy. With Mallala being less than an hour away and Mt Alma about the same, I would love to get my driving 'up to scratch' to perhaps have an attack for WTAC 2015/2016.

Nice car man :)

Just a few FYI's, although you probably will know...

 

- All GSR's have/had noisy lifters, either try thicker oil, otherwise replace with a new revised set (Meek sell a set of 16) and will be gone :)

- Expect Roof Rust (Just FYI)

- Crank Angle Sensor (CAS) will die eventually (First symptoms, car will randomly stall, eventually wont start at all)

- Idle Speed Controller (ISC) will die eventually (Idle RPM will fluctuate)

- Window Regulators can become jammed, new part is re-designed

 

Apart from that, they are pretty good :)
