Nothing 'goes' there as such. Without actually knowing, I'm going to guess that the areas you circled are air paths for stuff like EGR and idle control. Air is most likely 'leaking' through there, but in a 'controlled buy the ECU' kind of way.
I would just be making sure that the whole lot of that is sealed off from any air not coming from that big hole on the right of your picture.

If it leaks air there, check faces are flat and draw file till they are. Cut a gasket and put some sealer on
ON THE ENGINE STAND. g4cs 2.4l + Gt35r. PLUS: auto conversion + Awd coming.
thanks for parts and help: BMGTZ, EVOCPE, cwolf, Benozi, Jamo-GSR, 1JUM2NV, RXVII..much appreciated, cheers guys.

That's my throttle body above, all I did was seal most of it with the paper gasket on the inlet to the throttle body. If your gasket matches the inlet then when the throttle body is bolted on it will seal and allow air to pass where required.

Posting in here because I can't post anywhere else...
(On an Evo 1)..Took the TB off to replace the shaft seals that were leaking. I also ordered a new TB gasket from Meek which is MD180361which they claim to be for Evo1-9 even though I believe the OEM part number was MD194578.
When I place the gasket it doesn't seem to be quite the right diameter and I don't get the purpose of the raised sections. It seems like it would be very easy for this gasket not to seal well. Can anyone confirm if this is definitely the correct gasket for the Evo 1 even though the diameter looks wrong and if there is any trick to get it to seal well in terms of positioning of the gasket sealer?
The one that was on there previously wasn't an OEM metal one so I'm not really sure where it came from.

Reusable (most of the time) which is great. Looks like it will work.
