Does anybody get into kayak fishing?  What do you paddle? I live in Maryborough and am close to the river which I'm a bit more inclined to paddle in now that the crocodile has been caught and

 

relocated. I have a group of peeps I usually cruise around with, mainly bass fishing, seems to be the most favourite with a bit of ocean thrown in sometimes (Gategers bay) and the Burrum, Gregory and

 

Isis sometimes as well, Beelbi creek down to Goodies at Toogoom is a nice paddle too. Barra season is closed and I didn't even get out there

 

If anyone is up this way and wants to go for a paddle shoot me a PM.

 

I'm putting some kayak racks on my fibreglass boat and hope to shoot out to some of the Bay Islands and reefs.

 

I paddle a Jackson Cuda 14, a mini X with a 44lb on it, and a Sevlor inflatable for the hard to get to places, kinda got it all covered.

HAHA, well I have had a 3 metre bull shark chomp off what would have been decent size cod less than 2 metres from me. The shark was longer than my kayak.

 

Apparently bull sharks do that a lot, nice easy meal. I was just happy that it went for the fish and not the big finless drongo sitting on a kayak out in the middle of the river.

 

Paddled like champ that day.

LOL, I would have but I was busy doing a couple of things, firstly shouting something I think it was "consecrated sexual intercourse!" or something along that theme, the second thing was pooddling which is a technique that uses the

 

upper body as well as the lower digestive tract to enhance speed and lighten the craft and the occupant simultaneously 

 

My old man and I have been interested in getting into it would be good fun i reckon

 

It's a great hobby to get into, so many places that a boat can't get to are accessible for paddling. If you do get into it, grab a good quality yak. I would highly recommend a Jackson, they have the most comfortable seat on the market,

 

and let's face it, there is a lot of time spent with your arse in a seat fishing from a kayak.  They are a bit more than the BCF kayaks, but they are the best purpose built fishing kayak. Youtube Jackson kayaks, check out the

 

Cuda, Coosa and Big tuna, just ignore Drew Gregory, he gets a bit sales pitchy.

It really is Ted. One of the best things I've done for myself to wind down. A slow cruise along the length of a weir or tributary, no current, protected from the wind, fishing if you want it, or just ease on to the next bend to see what's

 

around the other side. It is just brilliant. The ocean stuff is a bit more work though.

I'll get into something like this in a few years im still doing the sort of hypo/adrenaline stuff but it looks mint!!

I love kayak fishing! So much fun, nothing like being able to get right into those spots others can't!

I was fishing in one spot and had fish jumping into the yak and over it! 

When you hook onto a good fish and you watch your tip disappear into the water and the drag is screaming, its addictive!

Looks like you have a nice part of Australia down there mate, where is the pic taken? Is that an island to the left or part of a headland? Absolutely beautiful pic, glassed out to the horizon, just perfect.

 

Fishing off a kayak is so much more enjoyable than a boat IMO, just so relaxing. Great for crabbing too. Low tide?, no problem!

 

I have a sunset, and "The plastic pig" taken on 2 different days at Burrum heads.

Haha mate we have massive great whites down here in Tassie, rival SA i reckon! But you don't worry about that.

To the left is an island, the right is another island, it was a killer day, hit the water at 8am and it stayed like that till 5pm when I finally got back.

It's down the south east of tassie a place called blackmans bay.

I reckon one of the kite surfing kites would be good for covering lots of ground. You would need foot rudder but it would be fun to try.
