OK been lurking ever since I bought my RVR 3 years ago. Im a motorbike guy and I have to say the whole world of the turbo motor is like black magic to me!

The RVR has been flawless, but I dont really know what to do with it now.

It got broken into, and the desperados seemed to think a cheap head unit was worth taking. The car has a few electrical demons now/ It eats batteries and I reckon the alternator is gone. Power to the electrics is intermittent.

Im not a mechanical newby but electrics is out of my league. Especially when the fuses are in Japanese. The car is sitting there and my missus is driving me crazy about it.

I have tried selling it, but no one knows what it is. I loved driving that car. It was my MTB transport. I would rock up to the trail and all the guys in their Subaru Outbacks would stare!

I am in SA. Have been ringing around to maybe find a mechanic that knows these cars. I dont trust taking it to just anyone. Even an enthusiast that would spend the time on it would help.

Anyone here in SA that might be interested in this car? It needs to be driven, not sitting under a cover.

How much u looking to sell it for?

Its one of those things, its my favourite car I have owned. I used to come home from work and spend half an hour sitting in it making phone calls. It was my office!

I sound like a loser...

I had $5k on it but got sick of the p plater factor(no offence) coming round my house for a test drive. I would consider any offer thats decent, but I didnt post up here to necessarily get a sale. Just though you guys could give me a bit of direction with it maybe. I dont even know what its worth.

Thanks that was actually very helpful. All the fuses are good and where they are supposed to be. The issue I cant nail down is that the car runs and drives fine, but has no central locking, climate control, and electrical function until after it runs for about 5 mins. It then all kicks in but there is multiple warning lights coming up on the dash. If I charge the battery it is drained straight away. I am thinking alternator but I dont know how easy it is to test this or even if I could get one to match.

Thanks for the replies!

Alternator test.
Get voltmeter and measure battery voltage. Say 13v.
Start car. Measure again. Say 14v and slowly coming up. Good.
Turn everything electrical on. Hi headlights, hi fan, aircon, hazards, demister, wipers. With revs at around 1700rpm you should still be holding battery voltage. Ie volts not dropping.
If it is dropping, there is a thread about battery light that tells you how to put brushes in a altenator.

Also at key on, does the battery light come on? If not you may need a globe for it
4g93t jumbuck conversion. PRANGED 18/3/12, CHECK MY MEMBER RIDES Page 11. no serious human injuries.
ON THE ENGINE STAND. g4cs 2.4l + Gt35r. PLUS: auto conversion + Awd coming.
thanks for parts and help: BMGTZ, EVOCPE, cwolf, Benozi, Jamo-GSR, 1JUM2NV, RXVII..much appreciated, cheers guys.

Thanks very much for the info. I will give it a go this weekend and report back.

The battery light works with key on, so thats a bonus!

Normally the battery light will come on if its not charging enough.
Also maybe something draining battery while its turned off?

Do a parasitic draw test, there are a few on you tube that show how to do it.

Ok I know what you mean now. Battery light works but goes off when motor is running. Tried it again today. Once car warms up the climate control kicks in, the doors lock and the srs and transmission lights come on.

I will get the battery fully charged, test everything then go from there.

Again thanks for the input!

Cool as Benzo! never heard of this test till now.

Eric.... my favorite man for anything I'm not sure of :D GL JRD, failing all this a good mobile auto elec will be able to sort it quick smart. Does this problem co-incide with the break in? if so I'd double check by taking your radio fuse out and go from there.

Ok got brand new battery tested 12.6

Start car it goes to 11.8

Put everything on(air con /lights etc) 11 and dropping.

No battery light in dash, just srs.

Either side of alternator fuse measures same as at battery.

Looks like alternator is fried?

Thanks again for the help.
