You can use put in 16G turbo, but I am not sure if that would solve your problem.  Are you back-firing, through exhaust?

Is it happening on acceleration as well as deceleration? If decel is when it occurs it could be a rich mix with a restricted exhaust, the fuel mix half burns and then hits fresh air and ignites with a bang.

What is your AFR and timing data? I'm certain someone around here will know much more than I do regarding this.

Is it a '63 from a HSG? If it's from an SSG you will need to port your exhaust manifold a bit to make the best use of the 7cm housing on the 16g hotside housing, it's a pain in the arse but can be done in

a pinch, I mean a REAL pain in the arse. You'd be better off sourcing an evo 3 ex. mani.

Here are some quick comparo pics that show the difference between an SSG and Evo 3 Manifold. The bolt pattern is the same but there are clear differences in size and therefore flow. I do have the

difference in flow figures, but I don't want to fling Nerd around the place.

Hope this helps

AFR - Air Fuel Ratio, you can buy gauges for this that are relatively inexpensive, not overly accurate, but they will indicate if your car is running rich (too much fuel) or lean. A very good investment.

Yeah, evo 3  setup will be a good choice for sure.

Timing might be part of it, but it's hard to tell.

You'll have to get a timing light from a parts place, or if there is a mechanic close by they might put a timing light on it for you. If you buy one then you'll always have it for future use.

Does the engine have a cam angle sensor on it at the rear or is it at the front?

The first pic is what the Cam sensor looks like on the rear of the head, the second is a pic of one that is mounted on the front off the cam pulley.
