Well ive had my 1995 RVR sports gear for a couple years now but due to a gearbox issue it's been sitting in the garage for most of that 2 years. I am now going to rip the engine out and rebuild it and possibly the box. I already have the rebuild kit for the box but im thinking it's the throw out bearing has collapsed cause now i push the clutch in and it's basically not there and wont spring back.
Anyways im going to rebuild the whole thing and get it back on the road with some added extras. I was thinking of putting a TD05-16g turbo on it, a FMIC, and possibly a custom plenum with 70mm throttle body. Will i need to or can i get the factory ECU tuned to take these mods??? I dont want to make the thing ridiculously fast (just yet) but want to make it about the same as an evo 3/hyper gear for now.
Also can i plug a 1997 rvr hypergear ECU into my 1995 sports gear?????

Honestly, I don't know about tuning and/or ecu issues regarding your build but going on posts I have read I imagine you will require changes in ecu to.accomodate your upgrades.
Your clutch can be a lot of things, even as simple as a clutch slave cylinder that needs replacing or a kit. Google that one and you will find lots of answers. I replaced my dads slave when he thought it was a pressure plate, so worth looking at first as it is external to the box at least...
Best of luck and sorry if my 2bobs is useless, sometimes its the simple things hey. Best of luck mate.

Hey,

In my opinion the throttle body/plenum isn't necessary.

But, as for the Front mount and Td05 16 it Will definitely give you a good punch! (and borderline on standard injectors, just don't up the Boost too hard)

Hypergear ecu to sportsgear, yes, straight plug and play. But your particular sportsgear MAY be using cam angle sensor and NOT crank angle sensor. If your motor is crank sensor, then go for it!
(to check, looking at the motor, there is a small component on the left of the rocker cover with a wired plug, that's a crank sensor)

Also ecu, no, you need it chipped, sent off to the States (I've done it) either called dsm link, or ecm link

HSG and SSG ECU's are almost same. There isn't any advantage running HSG in SSG.
Custom chip can be written for HSG ecu or SSG ecu. If you have you ecu board socketed then I can write you a chip to work with your upgrades. You could also use later evo ecu (5-8) in you SSG.
if you need any more info let me know.

BTW: what's your location?
If you're lucky enough you could come to my place and I do the lot for you after you do all upgrades. ;)

thanks for the replies guys. Ive been a 4AGE guy for quite some time and still have my AW11 mr2 with a 4AGZE, so 4G63's are fairly new to me. I hope your ready for lots of questions. lol.
Ive been following your work on here over the last couple days vr401 and you are quite the magician with ECU's :) i am located in brisbane unfortunately but i will definitely be in contact with the ECU thou.
So the gearbox issue was there when i brought the car. It had a dry bearing noise when the car was in gear and driving, i assumed it was just a dry box. So i brought the car and changed the gearbox oil and added LUCAS stop slip into it, but no change. It was a little bit grindy thru the gears, not bad but noticable. I brought a complete rebuild kit from the states as it was half the price as it is here and planned on rebuilding the box. The car had sit for about 3months without being started then i noticed the clutch was soft then fell to the floor with no spring back. So i was startin to think it was a throw out bearing that had let go. Im not going to know until the motor and box are out but does anyone know how much it's worth to get a 4G63T box rebuilt if i have the whole kit? or how hard is it to attempt at home??

The engine has 250,000km's on the clock but blows no smoke what so ever and still made really good power last time i drove it. But if im going to throw a TD05 on and more boost is it advisable to rebuild the engine??? Im going to do a full gasket vrs kit, all belts and water pump before i get it roadworthy again but should i do the whole lot??

Sorry for the novel but i want to know all the info before i throw myself into the deep end with this one.

also my final question for now is intercooler piping size?? from wat ive read 2inch would be enough for my application as i will be still using the TD04 for a bit until i can my hands on a TD05-16g.

Has anyone used or know if KLS power spirit turbos are any good?? they seem a bit too cheap for my liking...

How much time do you spend in a parking lot with your performance car? If you do a lot of parking lot driving, and hang out in parking lots, chances are you are a ricer, go home and read import tuner. If you’re complaining about noise you should not be modifying your car. You should also consider no longer being a man, please hand in your genitals at the door.

That's awesome news I was stressing about it a bit. :) the shopping list is getting bigger and bigger for this car. I really wish there wasn't so many bolt on upgrades for this engine. Lol

Hey,

In my opinion, with the kms you've got on your motor, it would be advisable to rebuild the lot. I'm saying this from owning 4 rvr's in one year (2013)

This is simple, the Sports gear and some hypergears that have been sitting here in australia and complied sometime ago. All the 'holiday' travellers only ever topped up with regular 91 octane.

Most have similar symptoms such as, rings, Blown headgasket, and the usual I don't care about this cheap car and let the timing belt snap and bend my valves

Whereas a Genuine Evo 1-3, whoever owns one of these is already a genuine enthusiast, actually takes care of them. So I'll let you do the math ;)

And yes, the KLS Td05 16 is fine, nothing wrong for the value, 100% bolt on

Don

Yea the previous owner was a soccer mum but the husband was a mechanic and used to race Sprint cars I think they were. I did wonder whether it had a rebuild at some point due to the no smoke for the high kms. I've owned mitsu's before and they do love to smoke. But yeaI mite do the full rebuild just to be on the safe side.

Will 2inch intercooler piping be enough for a TD05-16g? Or do I need to go bigger?

Whats wrong with the original piping? If your not chasing big numbers I would be leaving the original piping and spending the money on things that ARE needed.

well i want to do away with the top mount intercooler and go front mount. All the original piping is looking a bit old fragile now also so i thought i mite as well swap it all out as im rebuilding the engine anyways.
It has the TD04 on it atm but was eventually going to goto the TD05-16G.

this is the rebuild kit im looking at for the SSG....

http://www.ebay.com....l2649

pretty good price i thought for a whole kit, im assuming it's all fairly good quality. And no im not chasing massive numbers, somewhere around the 250-300hp at the wheels.

yea im not gonna get anything before the engine is out. Parts seem very cheap in the US, probably cause the 4G63 is in everything over there. lol. Hopefully in the next coupe weeks ill have time to rip it out and start ordering bits and pieces.
