  • LocationThe home of unemployed bogans - Hervey bay,

Hi all, I've been a bit slack on the build of my rvr, all the interior is in, sound system, amp sub etc. All I really have to do is get the head decked and seats cut then assemble it, I have to get the 264/268

cams and springs from kelford and am waiting for my pistons to come back from being coated, apart from that I'm ready to get my lego on!

I have a std socketed evo 3 ecu as well as one with ecmlink, I also have wideband and 4 bar map. I have 1000cc injectors as well as 2 sets of 450cc, 3 609 afms.  I'm set up for all possibilities.

I'm running a bastard 20g, W/A intercooler, a good port job on the head (promise I'll put up pics) and ported std ex. and intake mani. with a TR magna 60mm TB.

So my question is, should I use the std evo 3 ecu and 450cc injectors (obviously with higher fuel pressure to get them closer to 510cc output) and a 609 afm to start with, or should I bite the bullet and

just set it up with ecmlink straight away?

I just want to get the animal on the road and although I've been patient, I'm as anxious as:→ A man waiting for a cab after waking up next to a woman who looked good the night before but in

the approaching light and absence of strong liquor has discovered that she has legs that resemble the lunar surface and breasts that look like deployed airbags, and in the 7 minutes of being awake,

her 6 children have asked if they have a new dad.

Geez, I need help both psychological and technical, but mainly technical for todays audience.

With my recent build I had that same anxious urge to get it done and back on the road...but this saying always brought me back to earth..."do it once...do it right." That way once its back on the road all you do is drive it and enjoy it...rather than having to do something that your anxiety stopped you from doing that you should have just done to begin with.

Did you go with std tune first for run in?

I just used the tune that was already in the ecu on low boost. It goes in next week for late model ecu and e-flex speed density tune with bigger injectors.

Cant wait!! Im hoping to join the 300kw club!

How does the e-flex work, did you buy an additional sensor? I might stick to 98 up here, the nearest E85 is 30ks away. The flex thing might be a good idea for my build as well.

Eflex is just E85 from Caltex. Although it can vary quite a bit in actual ethanol content.

E85 is fun though once you are set up for it!

How much time do you spend in a parking lot with your performance car? If you do a lot of parking lot driving, and hang out in parking lots, chances are you are a ricer, go home and read import tuner. If you’re complaining about noise you should not be modifying your car. You should also consider no longer being a man, please hand in your genitals at the door.

Aaaah, I see. I'm all set for e85 although my injectors might be too small for any real power (1000cc), the problem is I live in the middle of butt fuck and by the time I drive to fill up on e85 I would have burnt 1/4 of a tank getting home

I don't think ECMlink supports the use of closed loop ethanol content analysers? Tim would be able to confirm.

So I take it the EPROM tune you have is just for 510cc injectors? RVR' came stock with 609's didn't they?
I say just go with it for now as long as you have wbo2 to monitor AFR's.

Get your car running and then sort out E85 and SD at a later date. Otherwise you might have too much on your plate at one time.

Ecm link straight up and 609 afm. The magna tb wont hurt either.
But you cant lower the boost less than the wg pressure.
Its fairly easy to set up the idle and cruise on ecmlink, and for full tilt you just adjust the mafcomp table once you are run in.

Even the map will not log in ecmlink v3lite. It wires into the coolant temp plug and you lock coolant temp. It os a temporary set up and not really suited for long term logging.

V3lite doesnt support eflex sensor, though they have recently bought a sensor for testing. The evo3 ecu has no spare inputs anyway, so it needs to be on sd to free a input

Yeah, eprom is a std evo, 510cc injectors. I believe 609 afm comes with the rvrs. My main concern is washing the bores and that's why I'm wondering about the initial tune, I'd hate

to put it all together and find I've missed something with the ecmlink and run too rich in the first stage while breaking the engine in. I think there is some credence in keeping it

all stock for the first 500km or so, bit until I see first hand what ecmlink can do I won't know if I can get it right.

I might run with an afm to begin with as a safety.

Tbh I think you'd run more of a risk running rich with EPROM+high fuel pressure, or at least you won't really have a good control over it.

If you're paranoid about overfuelling and you have a wb02, maybe go ECMlink because you will be very easily able to adjust global fuel.

You can still use your AFM and then convert to SD later.

Seems like a no brainer, go with the ECM Link! It will allow for easy data logging and immediate adjustments.

I'm a bit nervous about setting up my new engine with a tune as I haven't had a play on a 4g with some Ks on it, I am a perfectionist when it come to technical matters. I feel a bit more confident now. Thanks for the input guys ;)

Looks like the consensus is ECMlink with the 609. After run in I'll do the full change over to SD.

It arrives with a tune, and mine started right up. Im pretty sure once it warmed up it went into closed loop. Had to juggle a few things to get trims down. Then a little logging drive and press the maf calc button.
That will have nearly all your run in tune done.
There is vids on ecmlink under demos. Thats all I used.

Your wb will need to be logging in ecmlink and simulating narrowband.

Thanks Jack. My tune will be Soldave's old one he had in his evo, I assume I'll have to play with it a bit to input my mods. I'm sure I'll work it out once I see the screen first hand and do a few log runs.

Such a pity my engine is going into an rvr which weighs 1/4 of the moons mass

What is there to be nervous about? YOU are the ultimate protector of your engine. If in doubt, stay out of "high boost"!

Slightly off the topic of this thread, but I have got the shits with my daily driver, in all fairness it is a pile of crap.

So today I picked up a Sonata with the 4g63 in it 120k on the clock with the plan to throw it in the rvr and get it on the road, that way I can sort out all the other things while I have transport. I paid $200 for the whole car.
Jack will be so proud :D

I will transplant the 63T into it as soon as it's done, this seems like the most logical solution for my situation at present. I can now register the RVR do the go fast thing later.

On the upside, I have a buttload of '63 stuff now
