Kickdown on hill descent

Hi all,

 

As the title suggests any sign of a descent and my HSG loves to kick it back a gear. Is this common or does something need adjusting?

 

Trans fluid is good and the box works great otherwise.

 

I remember adjusting the kickdown cable on my 1979 XD Falcon back in the day, but Im guessing its more complicated than that in the RVR.

 

Any suggestions appreciated.

my ssg auto does it even on flat road. when your at highway speeds it damn near puts you through the front window so im keen to know it there is a simple fix as well.

wow, I really like the way it does that. My car never did it on a flat road though, unless coming to a stop. It was always when going downhill and I thought it was great. We have really hilly country roads around here so it's perfect, it drove like I would with a manual. If you don't like it, maybe the hold button will help? Never used it on our car but I assume it will hold you in the gear you are in?

Yeah the RVR 4th to 3rd kickdown going down a 70+kph hill is handy, but it is annoying when it kicks back on
near flat roads. You can flick the console toggle switch to man & back to auto to get it back in 4th in auto
mode or leave it in man mode. In auto mode, you don't have to think about shifting so much & your trained foot
can control how far you stretch the gears. In man mode, it is a man & it's up to you to pick your gears to suit
the revs etc. I use man a lot & if I'm at 40kph in a corner, I can wot 2nd gear & it won't kick back to 1st.
If I want 1st gear in man in that corner, I pull 1st gear 'AS' I accell out, at exactly the same time.

If you haven't noticed, the RVR auto won't go back to 1st unless you get down to 45kph in auto or man mode.
That is written in the eprom.
Pull 1st gear at 70kph & you'll notice you have 2nd gear. Slowing down, you will know it when you reach 45kph
when you will get thrown forward while being off throttle ;-) That's why 1st has the button for safety.

Allright so I really appreciate the replies. I always thought the console"hold" switch is what engaged between FWD and 4x4. Am I incorrect? If not is it constant AWD?

 

I was possibly being paranoid that something was wrong with the gearbox. I have not owned many autos and have never noticed the kickdown like in the RVR. If its normal, happy days.

Maybe I thought I read somewhere that A/T meant all terrain and engaged 4wd. 

 

So the switch holds you in the gear that you are in. Ahhhh...

If you have "HOLD" on and your car is in drive, you will take of in second and it will change into 4th after that. That is so you get a bit less tourque for driving on snow (hold is made for this) as well as if you drive and manualy shift between gears it will be in selected gear at all times except if you are in 4th and you stoped or almost stoped it will drop down to 2nd and then to 4th as you gain certian speed.

There is also a learning mode in your gearbox computer that makes a bit of difference to your kickdown shifting. More agresive you are more it will kick down to accommodate for your driving.
