I've recently started hearing a ticking noise in the motor .. Done some research and sources say it's the lifters ..

So I changed them over and yeah the old ones wer all seized up and wouldn't budge..

But it's still making a ticking noise .. I took it for a spin for 15mins but it's still there .. Could it be anything else ?

did you bleed the new ones before installing? even if you did they can still tick if the lifter cylinders are oval which is common when the lifters go solid.  they might not be seized but rather pumped up solid.....if you bled the new ones. use the same techique to check these actually have some play. If they have zero play...probably a couple of guides worn

edit....said guides...meant lifter cylinders

Purge or prime? My understanding was hla's should be purged (lubricated, but empty) prior to install.

Could be a rocker arm. Are you sure the noise is coming from high up in the engine?

But when i did my lifters they were lubed but empty prior to install.

Bleeding the lifters means emptying the lifters of all oil so that they are easy to compress up and down. This is a way to ensure that they are working.

You definitely DO NOT want to install rock hard lifters when putting the cams back in otherwise some of your valves will be pushed down and contact your pistons!!

When they are purchased new they already come with a thin coating of oil inside them to stop corrosion. You should simply just check that they push up and down easily, then you are OK to install them.

If you want to prime them before installation then allow a few mm play like what Brian said.

But ultimately you can put the empty/partly primed lifters back in and it will initially tick loud for a little while but the noise will slowly diminish after some time. Actually a few quick revs will get oil into them and quieten them up as they adjust.

Truth of the matter is our engines have a ticky sounding drivetrain and it NEVER goes away. Are you sure you're not confusing valvetrain noise for lifter noise? A lifter noise is much more louder and pronounced than valvetrian noise.

You will find that different oil viscosities will effect how loud the noise is, also if your oil pressure is too low.

On other cars to find a noisy lifter we would feed a feeler gauge between rocker and valve stem. If it shut up that was the lifter. On a ohc engine you could feed the gauge between rocker roller and cam.

Is it tick tick or clack clack. One lifter or several?

If you bolt cams down or put a head on with any cylinders at tdc, you deserve bent valves. Anyway, the chances are pretty remote of one being at tdc. It only needs to be 10mm down the bore to miss
