Hi guys, names John just bought a 1995 CC Gl. It was advertised as an executive and with the 4g93. Me being new to lancers just went with the flow and bought it. Latter found out it was the 4g15. Not to worried as it's just going to be a daily but still a little cut up about it lol. Anyway you will probably see me around on here asking really stupid questions as i've really got no experience with lancers what so ever. So I'm likely to get names of engines/bodies wrong all the time.

Currently own an s14 hence the topic title :P she's my pride and joy and also the cause of all my sorrow. bought it second had done some work to it, blew the engine twice -_- first time was due to oil leak which killed the bottom end, but the engine had done quite a few k's so was time anyway. second time was due to me being an idiot and winding up the boost with way to much advance on the timing. still not sure what's cooked but i know there is 25 psi compression on 2nd cylinder hehe...

So yeah got my little daily looking to keep it as stock looking as possible, nice respectable car and once the s14 is finished looking forward to some tasteful little mods. Kind of have 2 plans. One is to keep the carbbie 1.5 stick a cam with around 280 duration and stock lift and see how it reacts. if she's happy to run I'll keep the engine restore the carb, rebuild the engine with maybe a little higher compression, get an exhaust system but want it to look stock and be quite so nothing fancy and no cannons, and yeah see how she runs. Other option would be engine swap which from what i've read is pretty easy with these things, and also heard heads are interchangeable so might even convert to efi even though i love the carb set up lol. Not after a lot of power just something simple and zippy to get through traffic but at same time reasonably fun to take to the hills, like i said got the s14 for big power and lots of fun. This just needs to be reliable, easy to work on and clean/stock looking. Ohh and needs coil overs. body roll on this thing is amazing! never seen a FWD understeer so much in my life.

ANNNNNYYYWAYS happy to be here and going to try and learn as much as i can from reading about all sorts of things from you guys!!! Also if you ever see me say something wrong just correct me i wont take it to heart and would rather learn by being corrected than making mistakes and wrecking something on the car.

Thanks guys and see you around :)

You sound like you have a great attitude and am sure people on here will be ready to help when you need it.

BTW Mitsi's don't sound like a truck :)

Hmm, how much do you anticipate spending ?

I ask because a quick look at carsales.com.au shows a few Lancer GSR's for sale; here is one

http://www.carsales....5/?Cr=3&sdmvc=1

for $4800

Point is the cost of what you are talking about doing will run away from you, sell it, buy the car above and have a great runabout that is pretty zippy.

Of course, if you can do the work yourself just ignore the above as that makes it a different proposition.

hehe mine sounds like one :) loose tappet going of its tits lol, oh and rear bearing are shot also think CV's might need doing. Just done a great ocean road run (not thrashing just comfortable speeds) and don't think it helped much on the bearings lol.

Dave thanks for that mate. I'm not planing to spend much at all :) 2k at max. about a grand on suspension set up including sway bars and strut braces, and the rest on engine including the rebuild kit or if not rebuild just buy a cheap second hand 4g93 and rebuild that, found one the other week for around $400 found a cheap rebuild kit for it too including conrods and pistons :)  This is after i fix up my s14 of course :P  And yeah I'll be doing all the work myself. Not a mechanic or anything and no offence to anyone here that is, but id rather do the work myself and know exactly what parts are going in my engine than trust someone I don't know with it. Wont be the first engine swap or rebuild I've done so yeah.... fun times lol. Just cbf with ripping out the sr again.... Me + Turbo = Boom  But thanks heaps for the link I'll show my mate, his looking for a lancer!

Oh and sorry bout the truck thing, i meant my one not everyones lol. actually saw a really nice one when i was driving my s14 few months back. Was a white CC not sure what body kit it had on it (looked like an evo 3 front bar and hoof) or what running gear. thing was really clean though and had such a quite idle. Anyway i lined up with it at the lights and was listing to the exhaust, first i thought it had a shitty spark and was missing but once all the traffic stopped i could hear it purrrr thing had a really nice aggressive cam in it. Lights hit green and we both launched, he smoked me hard. Flew like a bat outta hell. Popped a few flames for me when he geared down at the next set of lights too haha. needless to say we gave each other thumbs up and i complemented his ride. Nice lad lol. If there's spelling or grammar issues please forgive me its 430am and i'm completely wrecked

Re suspension, if the struts are OK you can do a few things that make a big difference:

- Upgrade rear sway bar (actually, not sure if yours has one), whiteline do one (BMR56X) though having said that I am not sure if it fits CC GL, you may have to spend some time online!! If it does fit their website lists it at $215, you should be able to do it a bit cheaper, try Bursons.

- Upgrade all front bushes, fit whiteline KCA317X for the front lower inner rears.

- Fit camber adjusting bolts.

All that can be done for well under a $1000, especially as you can do it yourself.

Have a read of this attachment (got it off a thread here at 4gTuner, can't remember which one) to help with wheel alignment decisions, again it may be different between a CC GL and a CC GSR but worth researching!

Did all this to mine, NVH is a bit worse but I can live with that! Best bang for buck mods, so much better...

Wow thanks heaps for all that info! That's really helpful.

Hey I've got one thing that's bugging me one of you lads might know about. I've read up on a few different forums and they all say if you want to do an awd conversion you have to get a new floor pan to accommodate for the drive shaft and rear diff, but when I look at my floor pan there's already an arch that runs from the front of the car to under the back seat. Is that normal for a GL model? Or did the latter gl models come out with the gsr floor pans? Sorry if I don't make sense just woke up lol

its the arch bit where the rear diff mounts you will need to cut and weld a gsr pan in

Here's a pic of a GSR rear floor pan...

The area marked in red is the biggest difference !! This area in a GSR is much shallower then it is in non AWD lancers.. This of cause makes room for the diff...

The area marked in blue also has to be changed as the non AWD versions don't have the mounting pins / bolts at the ends..

The holes marked in yellow are in the rails of a non GSR but a GSR has cage nuts on the inside of the rails for the rear "K" frame to mount to.. Non GSR's don't have the cage nuts.

Correct these 3 things and your good to go...

Hope that helps...
