I eat my consumables and munch on parts at the mechanic/services bar, does this get me police attention? Yes, but it does increase my capacity for joy.

police attention?

My RVR was purchased after viewing no less than FOURTEEN other RVR’s (one import yard had six but I was still very selective over a 2yr period) under criteria to be as clean and OEM factory as possible without modification molestation.  I guess most of you would wonder why I was on this enthusiast forum then  :P  That said no matter how plain or factory your vehicle is a trained compliance officer can and will find something wrong with your vehicle if you bring attention to yourself (aka owning a silvia/skyline/wrx ..jokes) based on a set of step by step inspection routine and even if you pass that they can issue a full over the pit if they “suspect” something that would not be commonly visible.

However personally In 2yrs of driving a Hypergear RVR I have been through countless police random breath test (RBT) stings / QLD transport compliance “hoon crackdown” type operations and never been stopped to have my vehicle roadside inspected, they do however get excited seeing the front mount intercooler coming towards them, flag you down for RBT then scratch their heads wondering what it is, some ask then I just tell them “IT’S A NIMBUS” and then they wave you goodbye and you drive past the rest of the randomly selected cars (imports) waiting for a shiny yellow sticker for empty windscreen wiper water bottles (yes make sure you refill this on an RVR frequently).

I have only ever been pulled over once by an unmarked car as they suggested the factory towbar ball position was blocking their view of the numberplate (as pictured with this post).  I purchased the car with a QLD roadworthy with the tow-ball in place and was even told the vehicle came through import compliance with it.  I informed them that I had been through the above compliance traps they set up with a highway patrol car at the rear as those vehicles are fitted with automatic number plate recognition (ANPR) system with no problem.  Nor have I had issue with toll roads they left it at that, I removed the tow ball and left the towbar in place as they said “they couldn’t read it” but even elderly people in my family I showed the picture to on my smart phone were able to read the numberplate on much a smaller screen than real life photo proportions in which they had the issue with.

QLD transport especially change laws quite frequently in relation to traffic road rules and modifications etc and they don’t update their customers or have a means by which customers can confirm they have received let alone understood the changes.   Changes to Australian Design Requirements (ADR) also often do not stay up to date or conflict at times with new vehicles technologies and factory equipment.  If you believe you receive an unwarranted sticker do contest it, I have had friends with Silvia’s get told factory radiator mounts were not sufficient anchoring for an aftermarket radiator that was engineered to be held by the factory mounts.  End of the day wherever possible do everything to ensure your RVR is well maintained and compliant, investigate any modification you make if it requires a mod plate certification get one as chances are with the increase of inspections eventually will get inspected. (Yes remember to degrease your engine bay after every service interval as if you have some oil streak spill that wasn’t wiped up as they could flag you on suspicion)

don't forget the catch phrase "ITS A NIMBUS".

more to come

security and electrical gremlins

These days car thieves will steal any car they can make a buck off or to use to ram raid a store then steal ATM machine by pushing it inside or towing it away to hit with an axe to get some bucks.  As RVR's are unique people will often look at them as you cruise past and unfortunately if you follow salvage yards and different forums you will see people have lost their pride and joy.

As Hypergear RVR's are imports nearly all the stickers of what would be otherwise helpful safety, servicing or electrical information are in 日本 japanese if you can not solve the problem yourself by using the translated fuse and relay template located here

http://www.4gtuner.c...ed-fuse-covers/

And you are in south east queensland the best person to contact for security and electrical gremlins is Chris @ AE should be your first point of contact.  He has mobile business as well as a bricks and mortar store servicing everyone from police, government transport vessels, enthusiast vehicles down to mum & dad kid taxi's as well as a nationwide distribution parts and accessories to other installers and some major retailers so if you are not local to him he will be able to put you onto someone reliable that will do quality work local to you.

The external plastic trim beside the drivers door covers 2 Philips head bolts, if these are removed you can easily reach around and unlock the drivers door. Keep this in mind and fit security head bolts in place of the standard Philips

ones, or you can remove the tack welds from the inside and fit a bolt with a double nut so they cannot be removed from the outside.
