The sonata may be worth a look for a airbox if you get nothing else. Not sure if the mounts are correct, but it is a round type like the vr4.

In nsw. You need to have an engineers report for your mods and also have a current emissions compliance report also. Or alternatively get an IM240 done, which is free and if you pass that, they then list your mods and keep a record on file including pics of ur mods.

How current does your emissions report need to be? I've got one but it's 8 years old now, was done when the engineers report was handed in and approved by the RTA.
Also, dunno if it helps but I've got a satria gti/gsr airbox you can have for free + postage, if you get desperate.

He's in Sydney I'm pretty sure baz. That's an interesting question, I don't know. I can tell you though, believe it or Nsw emissions compliance laws have actually slackened over the past 3 years. I took my car for an inspection and they would not even look at it, now I recently got pulled up for no pcv recirculation into my inlet and 3 db too loud. That's not to sat that the police can't defect you for un-engineered mods. If you want to save the drama, throw ur car on e85, get it tuned for emissions, pass an Im240 and use that to engineer your mods. Then atleast you can hand them the appropriate papers, and if they still refer you to epa your car only has to meet the requirements of the mods listed on the Im240 not factory.

Nate, can't you just replace the rear muffler with a quiet one?

There is a guy out Penrith way. Hitman tuning that can tune ur car and takes it thru an Im240 until it passes. Then does a comprehensive report in your mods.

Also, hot tip, even if your car is engineered, and it is exactly as it is stated on the report, the cops can still defect you, because, well, they can.

Guilty until proven innocent, also, even if it is al legit and you have to go thru the fuck around to get it cleared, that money/time you lose, and have no recourse to get back from the NSW police.

Damned if you do, damned if you don't, NSW is the Nazi Police state.

Any mods that dont fall into the owner certified category in the NCOP, requires engineer certification. Any intake modifications requires an emissions test. If the engineer deems that the intake noise has been considerably raised than that of the stock vehicle/ stock donor engine then he may also request a drive by noise test (which is a PITA to setup and not many engineers practice it anyway because its bullshit - unless of course you're putting a big loud V12 into a Prius lol). Once you pass and obtain an IM240 emissions report then the engineer will require that as part of his evidence to prove compliance in his certification. Once you have your engineers report, the modifications and emissions system is now considered the 'standard setup' for your car. Any further modifications to the intake system, if deemed 'considerable' by an engineer, will need to undergo another emissions test. FYI the EPA can request their own tests of your vehicle if they wish to do so, regardless if you pass an IM240 test or not - because in the eyes of the beaurocratic EPA, the IM240 is an "indicative test only" to measure emissions for the purposes of registration.

I thought an Im240 was with the epa. Either at Botany or Penrith.

Unfortunately a lot of idiots stuffed things up for the rest of us over the years. My engineers report cost me $750 at the time, and it looks like it was just more money down the drain.

The IM240 is an RTA initiative at Botany and Penrith. However I believe the Penrith facility has since closed. The EPA technically dont recognise any test unless its been conducted by themselves.
Engineering modified cars is easy. You just need to do your homework and provide as much factual data to the engineer as possible to prove your modifications still meet compliance.
