Soooo I managed to get the car out for its 1st race meet last weekend, ran perfect and all was good.

I started it tonight and it pissed smoke out the back, it looked like something out of Mad Max. Im racing again in 2 weeks so whats the best fix fellas while adding some improvement? I don't have time to take the car out for any fabrication work so it needs to be bolt up solution.

Current specs of car

E3 cooler, exhaust, 15 psi boost

standard intake, meter, injectors, ecu.

Thanks in advance

My first thought for the quickest and easiest replacement is to get another one of what you already have and that way it all bolts straight back up to your existing hardware.  Might pay to get a dyno run done though just to make sure everything is A.O.K. before you hit the track again.

yeah was hoping for a bit more power via upgrade but maybe a rebuild kit is the way forward.

What turbo and what engine do you currently have? Might help if people knew that to give advice.

I have a GTpumps 20g that needs a rear housing. What turbo are you currently running?

Newbie question, will the 20g be able to use the stock rear housing?

Put a TD05-14B on it, I think from memory you need to use an EVO exhaust manifold or otherwise you need to port the standard manifold outlet.  My mate did this upgrade on his 4G93T with the EVO manifold and it was a great setup.

This would be a perfect turbo setup for track work IMO, as I think the 16G would be too laggy for a nice responsive track experience and even though the TD04 would be super zippy in 1st and 2nd, it would run out of puff right in the crucial rpm range that you need to hold the car in and have nothing top-end wise.

Would also be worth looking at some VR4 450cc injectors over the standard GSR 390cc.

Didn't realise you had a TD04, the 20g needs a TD05 rear, probably not really worth it for a 93, the boost threshold would be a tad high.

You won't be able to run an Evo manifold so will need to port yours. I'm running a 20g on a 93t and don't see power till about 4,000rpm. But that's with cams so it'd probably come on later with your setup.
I could have helped you with a perfect replacement td04 about three weeks ago but since sold it. If you really want to replace it with the same turbo Kinugawa make a direct replacement td04 13g, but for $700 odd you're probably better off just buying one of their 16gs.

Id go the TD05-14b ive got one on my 93 and i agree with ENGINR its a good responsive turbo it would be good for pulling out of corners while maintaining

ok/good top end for straights
