Have you got a boost leak tester? Cheap on ebay and hard to check without one.
Tb shaft seals were a pretty big leak for me. Injector seals are common leak items too

EGR is a terrible thing! So it is good idea to block it, not matter what ;).

This guy had issues too:
http://www.dsmtuners...ak-test.455665/

You could remove valve and fill its port with kerosene. If it leaks out your valve is leaking. If its good refit it and boost leak test the gasket.
The boost leak test with the egr fitted will be pissing out the exhaust if the egr valve leaks.

Are you joking? Or do you have some testing that you have done to back up what you say?
What leads you to this supposition?

It is moderately effective at reducing NOx emissions but... It comes a price. A side-effect of sending exhaust gas through the intake is that covers EVERYTHING in black carbon. I am talking about: throttle body plate, ISC, intake manifold, intake ports, intake ports and even inside the cylinders!

Eventually, those deposits start causing all sort of problems! Many idle problems are connected to this! Ironically, poorly running cars end up making MORE emissions as a result of no longer being well tuned.

And BTW, removing. EGR has no ill effects (aside of slightly higher NOx emissions and CE light on some cars) You would be hard pressed to find a DSM that is still running a functioning EGR, most of us bypass it!

And your will be even more pressed to find EGR system in a modern car! Most manufacturers have abandoned this terrible system!

If you arent pumping oil out the exhaust, then you wont be covering anything with carbon.
Also it puts gas in after the isc and tb so will be coating the ports and back of valves on a oily engine.

yep, im easy 10-15yrs behind on car tech.

I take it you never looked on the inside of the EGR equipped car ;). Trust me when I say: it is truly discusting!

Turbo cars tend to run richer than NT and leave plenty of carbon.

Stock PCV system + working EGR = cake mix of oil and carbon on everything inside the intake to valves.....

Actually new cars do still use EGR systems.... still crap.... Directed injection engines cop even worse carbon build up then normally injected engines...

Jay, I have been noticing that more and more new engines are dropping EGR system, but some still do use it.

On our engines, you can see the "clean spots" where injectors spraying fuel. It would be EVEN WORSE if this was DI engine!

Some argue that EGR gives you better fuel economy. There is some science to back up this claim, but real word numbers do not back it up.

Plus, any gains are eventually offset by gummed up engine...

Assuming you guys have them.. They are in the intake manifold, around 8cm below the throttle-body.

I have a couple of them in my garage. Photo of the valve a port through which it gets EG from the head. I am curious which of those EGR features still exist on non-EGR engines. I bet your head gasket sill has this port.
