Hey guys.

Just thought I would put up my EVO 3 rally car.

I have owned it for around three years and I have done a lot to it since I have owned it.

It main purpose is a gavel rally car but it does make an odd appearance on tarmac.

It has a good history and is still going strong, for hopefully many more years to come!

I believe the shell is a Tommi Makinen recce car used for rally Australia back in the day.

Ill update with ongoing maintenance and future developments on the car.

Hear are some basic specs and pictures of how it has progressed so far,

The next things to happen is changing over to E85, and lot's of general maintenance for the next event on August 16th.

Fitting of a Fluidampr crank pulley, new under body protection, all oils changed, brake pads replaced.

Ill have a bit more to update when I'm back with the car.

-Body Shell

Full chrome molly cage tower to tower.

Fully seam welded and foam filled.

-Suspension

Proflex 55mm bearing type dampers.

Ralliart bushes throughout.

Rose jointed rear links.

-Gearbox/Differentials.

Ralliart front and rear LSD's.

Extreme heavy duty clutch.

Brand new EVO 3 gearbox.

Brand new Ralliart VCU

-Brake

AP racing 4 piston calipers front and rear.

AP racing discs.

Front/Rear bias adjuster.

-Engine

Fully built EVO 3 engine

Fully forged, blueprinted balanced.

Coated pistons and I/C piping.

And a lot of other stuff!! I really could go on for ever!

75mm Exhaust, and dump pipe.

New turbo with enlarged waste gate, fully HPC coated. heavy duty bearings.

Motec M4 ECU, with all options.

Motec dash display, with all alarms.

Car makes 190kw with a 34mm restrictor.

More new parts to fit in the coming weeks. hopefully the move to E85 will give some more power and torque.

Here are some pics of its transformation.

The 34mm restrictor was brought in to try and keep a level playing field.

You are now aloud to remove it, but i am choosing to keep it in as that way I can use E85, where with no restrictor I think its limited to 98.

Yeah the dump pipe is a custom one, stainless steel HPC coated. with V-band.

Here are a few more pics including turbo restrictor.

Yeah well I am hoping for 210kw plus when I change to E85 and loads more torque.

Surprisingly the traction is very good. With the diffs set up correctly and a set of gravel tyres it really does get good traction,

Keeping it in tends to keep the rpm range in the lower section. Which helps with reducing wheel spin. My max RPM is around 6000rpm

Anything after that and the turbo just runs out of puff.

Also will be putting the car on a bit of a diet, currently its weighing around 1330kg.

It is still running power windows so they will be going.

Haha yeah George, its a bit on the fat side, but all the under body would weigh around 50kg.

Minimum is 1280kg.

Hey guys Have a bit of an update,

While I was home I got the car very close to fully finished for the next event in August.

There were a few jobs to get done, with some new parts arriving.

I received my Fluidampr it looks good, is slightly heavier than the stock unit but seems like a lot better unit.

Reason for replacing  is after I noticed my factory one starting to separate at the rubber.

The next thing I had to do was modify my breather set up, the engine was still running small 8mm ID hose and it was causing too much pressure in the line and pumping out oil.

I increased it to -10 size.

I removed the internal baffle on the cam cover so I could clean it out properly after all the swarf was in there.

I chose to use the existing baffle but cut down.  I drilled and taped into the existing mounting points, then using small button head screws with loctite to hold it in, meaning it can be removed for cleaning.

Cover completely sand blasted after welding.

photo (20).JPG

I decided to paint it a slightly more charcoal color and i was very happy with the result.

photo (16).JPG

The Next job i had to do was just give my front dampers a quick check over and service.

Really it just involves pulling them down, re-greasing them and re assembly.

These are a Proflex unit with full roller bearing. Which are very nice.

Next time I'm home ill be running the event.  New tyres are to be fitted and a couple of other jobs and its ready to go.

Hey guys, thought i would share a bit of an update.

A couple of weekends ago we ran in one of our state rally championship rounds.

The event was going well, but unfortunately we had a bit of an off over some rather large rocks!

It happened on the last stage of the event and we were leading going into that stage.

A bit fast over a crest and ran wide, this event was running on a road book so you only know a minimum of calls.

The car is mostly all stripped back and ready to be put on the jig,

It did a bit of damage to suspension components and some damage to the coolers.

Here is an on board from the stage we had the accident, unfortunately the crash wasn't captured as the camera froze just before.

Hey guys, just a bit of an update,

Got the damaged front support off, now just need to get the car on the jig and get it straightened back up!

Will probably be the best it's ever been!

Slowly collecting new parts, and looking for improvements.

The main thing is to work on the weigh and get it down to the class minimum which is 1280kg. Currently 1330KG.

does anyone happen to have a brand new front support panel laying around?
