Hey guys, I've had a quick look through the forums for this but haven't found anything as yet. I hate going into jobs Blind so I thought I'd ask. Steps to access the ecu for removal. I'm guessing the blower assembly needs to be removed. Anything further from there would be great!

Also a side question. I'm assuming the only way to reflash an Evo 1-3 ecu is by ecm link? Is this true?

Just remove the kick panel on lhs. Undo the couple of screws at bottom and the ecu drops down. I have enough loom to remove connectors after, and I use a screwdriver to flick out the ecu plugs.

Reflashing is using a different eprom chip. You need to remove your eprom and put in a socket so you can change the chip. Meek do new chips, vr401 also does them.
Ecmlink is tunable, so you dont need to reflash every time you want a retune. But you still need a socket.
There is something else too, goose? Emu? Something with a long neck.....ah, ostrich. I know nothing of this...its plugs in and is tunable, I think

haha the reason for all this madness is basically no CEL. I'm trying to see what information I can get from the ECU, if it is ECM link or similar style, I should have something at work that can read any diagnostic ports. The 12pin style that comes from factory is not helping me here. have tried using our G-scan with Mitsubishi 12pin adapter with no success, no power source either. No CEL on the dash means either a globe out or the light is on the ECU itself, but I'm still quite curious to see what tuning method was used. I'll be having a look this weekend so tools are normally at work which means I need to gather up the ones i'll be using before I leave, bit of a pain haha

No it's currently running. not the best though. Wideband reads too rich under load while idle is normally ok. I do have a dead spot in my TPS but with no onboard diagnostics I'm getting tired of checking resistance values haha

Ok a few questions

Looking at the interior fuse box is there a white plug attached to it?
how many pins does it have?
Now look under the dash behind the hood release
Does it have a trapezoid shaped obd2 plug?

If the answer to one is yes the answer to two is one and the answer to three is yes you have to plug into BOTH of these ports at once to scan the ecu

yes it's me KHUBNER

Only diagnostic port I can see is the old school mitsubishi type. Its only running 4 actual wires to it. I probably should have mentioned it's a Evo 3 setup in a gsr.

It will normally idle 13-15:1
Under load I'll be going as far as 10:1

And sorry khubner1. I misread your post. I'll have a better look. Didn't manage to get my head under properly. Will have a look behind the bonnet release this time

That's normal for a stock untuned ecu to run that rich on load

This was my thought also. Idles rough but at lambda 1. It had a coolant fan switch issue before. When I resolved the issue, it didn't take into effect until I reset the ecu (remove battery terminals for 30+ mins)

I wonder if a adjustable fpr wound down a bit would fix that? It will compensate on closed loop with trims

The annoying part is that it is tuned. Richest I would normally see under HEAVY load was only 12.5-13:1

I have an external reg, could possibly try it but I have a feeling there is something electrical going on for a start.

I'll update when I get more info. Just in case anybody runs into these issues. General guidelines for newbie Evo1-3 owners and GSR. I've learnt a lot through here so far but still a lot to go

Factory ecu (reflashed) injectors are 1000cc big fuel pump. Cams and head work also.

I would think that 12.5 is way too lean for heavy loads and 13.1 even more

And are ya using a afm? Also have ya tried calibrating the wideband
I see why ya wanna get the ecu hooked up, could be a number of things, just seems odd because ya havnt touched anything else
