Hey everyone,

 

Brought some new shoes and want to work out the best tyre size.

 

It's a GSR with 4x114.4 stud pattern. 17" rims

 

I want to have as much tyre on the road as possible, but don't have access to a tyre chat, so unsure what the best size would be without throwing my speedO out, want to keep the right rolling diameter, as it's important obviously.

 

Any input would be awesome

They are Enkei Tarmacs

 

I had my cuz in NZ buy them for me, as so hard to find here in Aussie, unless you wana pay $3000

 

Just arranging shipping for them now

 

They've been repainted and new sticker decals too

Man there beautiful wheels, there the exact same ones on my mates evo 8mr

here is my mine, only main difference as these are a little old is I now have the amber indicators which looks x10 better.

 

Will upload a few more once the wheels are one, then i only have to arrange a evo 2 front bar ;p

In regards to tyre size, I was running on 215/45s an use to get a slight rub, nuthin you would really worry about, an that was without me doing the bumper tab mod,
Anyone used 235/40s?

Or even 225/35/17 as looks like the same rolling diameter?+

225 35 has about a 5% difference if ya went a 40 profile it would reduce it to maybe 2%?
Anyway, evl20t found a good tyre/ rim calculator, beworth ya plugging a few numbers in to see what gets close, also the 1 he found im pretty sure would tell ya how far the tyre would be off the strut too
Be 1 thing to get the same rolling diameter, and a completely different 1 to get the bastards under

Here's a couple of pics of one of my old GSR's with 215x45x17 and super low kings. Fills the gap better than 205x40's I reckon

Ive got 215/45 but as the calculators will show you the speedo will read slow (e.g. your actually speed will be greater than the speedo).

215/35 will be have the speedo ready correct.

Most people run 215s.

 

Not too sure what wheels you have on at the moment or what suspension, but you may find some scrubbing etc if these are larger than your current wheels.

I just reset the speedo. Check how far out it is at 100kph with gps.
Pull the needle off, drive at 100 (on gps) and jam needle back on. Will take a few goes and probably easier with cruise control or more hands.

Really not that big a deal. Once you know how far out it is you can adjust. And for sure your speedo will be fast to begin with.

You use the speedo gearing to get the odo correct, the speedo is adjusted by spring tension and needle position

this doesnt always work...its hit and miss. And can be quite tricky.

Why did you go with a 215/45 and not a 215/35?

 

Yea 215 does seem the go, I'm downgrading from the crappy 18s that are on it

Availability. 215/45 is a reasonably common size, the 215/35 is a lot less common.

There was a great sale on Advan AD08R tyres so I just got the 45s as they were avaliable. The 35s were ex-overseas and a multiple month wait.

Full On.. I've put the GSR on a lease, so will have to get the fleet guys onto sourcing something now, they can find them for me

Was a shame to find out the guy selling them had done a spray paint job to make them look tidy. Lucky for me they were in good condition apart from that.

 

I've had them powdercoated before leaving NZ and looking the part now, They'll be on the car in under two weeks, Pics to come
