What one do you have steve?
Crank sensor is either on the gearbox end of the head and a evo3 one will suit.
Or the crank sensor is on the crank at the front of the engine and a 3g one from the states will suit.

A 4-5-6 wont fit.

This is the first one I found and not the cheapest or closest:

This one if you have the evo3 style:
http://m.ebay.com/it...0342?nav=SEARCH

There is a roadrace engineering page about these. Tells you about metal tops and plastic tops. I think it says all the plastic tops will suit you and none of the metal tops. Some metal tops are 1g only.

I dont know about the cam sensor that is under the intake cam. It is similar to the 3g crank sensor, but not the same.

I dont think any rvr had the vr4 style with the lead on them.

thanks for the info lads but this seems to get more complicated the more you find out think the best idea is to get the old one off and try to match it up to a new one. mitsubishi want to releave me of a mear £600.00 for a genuine new one.

Is it on the back of the head steve?

A bit of google suggests the metal topped ones are no good and the plastic topped ones are the go. Im sure yours will be plastic topped if its on the back of the head.

Now, I read that they went to the plastic top to make the cars obd2 compatible, and had to go obd2 for emmisions.

My HSG has the crank sensor you have in your first post Jack but it also has an inductive pickup off the intake cam (I'm guessing for reset?) which looks like the one in that ^ picture.

I'll take a better pic for you later.

Also, do you have a link to that RRE page where it states why metal tops are no good? - I can't find it.

Both are inductive or hall effect. Both are same just in different bodies. The crank one has a horizontal slot to read the chopper wheel and the cam one has a vertical slot.

I have both of them here as im retrofitting them to a 6bolt. They look like my 1st and 3rd post

The vr4 is optical
The evo3 is inductive
I believe the change may have something to do with rising and falling trigger, but I havent had to learn about that yet.

Edit: back to front. Vr4 is optical and evo is inductive. My bad.

Rre link, the geek waveform bit is cool too. The counter rotation bit is about the front of cam chopper wheel compared to rear of cam.

Don't forget with all this that you can put them in 180deg out there is a mark on the bottom of one side of the insert  :P

And if you buy one of the "black top" CAS's take the cover off and check that all of the teeth are intact (people mod them remove the home trigger for certain ecu's ) there should be 4 on the outer set and 2 on the inner.

Understeer is when you hit the wall with the front of the car and oversteer is when you hit the wall with the rear of the car. Horsepower is how fast you hit the wall, torque is how far you take the wall with you.

If its the crank and cam wheel style (I think it is) there is no mistakes and no adjustment to be made

Try  partsouq.com

MD327107 SENSOR,CAMSHAFT POSITION   64.59$

MD300101 SENSOR,ENG CRANK ANGLE   78.84$

I think that is US$?

No "6 weeks from japan" here

To make sure you have the right bits do a VIN search

Also try Amayama trading in Japan but I think partsouq is cheaper and freight will be less for you in the UK

BTW Cam sensor is much easier to replace than crank sensor

My HSGR has the cam sensor on the end of the exhaust cam at the back top on the right hand side

The crank sensor is way down at the back on the left hand side under the timing cover which means you have to take lots of bits off to get at it

When my cam sensor died my engine management light would come on and when I turned the motor off it wouldn't start again.

Made horrible clunks and I (eventually after spending lots of money suspecting an intermittenet ECU fault) realised the ignition was firing in the wrong place.

I had the crank sensor replaced and that fixed it for about 2 weeks

I replaced the cam sensor (myself) and after some initial grumbling it decided it wasn't a washing machine and has run OK ever since (about 2 years now)

At the time I was too scared to do my own mechanicing because it looked too hard

Having now had  it apart 3 or 4 times for various reasons it's (mostly) a piece of cake

Bit more info

This is looking at the top rear of the motor from the right hand side and shows how the sensing cylinder is installed too

Sure is

I am given to believe that the HSGR has an evo3 motor

Steve- you have to post a pic dude. Of the gearbox end of the head. Show if there is a sensor there.

You could even pop off the top of cam belt cover and post a pic of the intake cam wheel.
We need a pic to tell you what you have and therefore need.
