Hey guys! so my gearbox has pretty much shat itself and now grinds when ever I change gears, thinking of reconditioning the gearbox and just pretty much getting new selector sleeves, synchro and hub assemblys. Or theres the second option which is buy my mates second hand gearbox which is from an Hyper sports gear with approx 120xxx KM for $500 and getting a mechanic to install it for me. which i also have to pay the labour for. What would be the cheaper and better option? and also i have just a sports gear model and not the hyper sports gear. Will the gearbox just bolt on or not? much help will be appreciated! thanks guys

best check the diff ratio of what you have and the one you are considering. it is on the plate pn the firewall. It will say 3.909 or 3.545.
if they are the same then good..... But also run a google search of the two using the W5M33 2 ???? number stamped on the bellhousing of both boxes in case some one has changed the box at some time. The next thing to check is the transfer case ratio as Ive seen a couple of the RVR using an evo 3 transfer case.

Someone will cone to the rescue buddy, they always do. Tim from brisbane rebuilds gearboxes for fun. Hopefully he will see the post and come to your rescue or someone will have a spare floating around for sale.
Best of luck my friend.

I'm still in need of a gearbox for my HSGR.
Too bad Australia is so far away from here and gearboxes are heavy.
I'm trying to get a Evo3 UPGE gearbox. But that's also a struggle.

notchy 2nd would most probably be the 1st/2nd hub and slider (hub and sleeve) which teeth get chipped over time when people miss-shift from 1st into 2nd and grind them away.
You can buy brand new ones through TMZ in America or perhaps even give Amayama a try.
Part number is MD749414 and should be about $140US.
Else you can probably pick up a good one from another broken gearbox. RVR, GSR, EVO I-III all use the same part number hub and sleeve for 1st/2nd gear.
