bought this one for the daughters first car so she doesnt get to drive the ute with l plates on.
of course as the description says, it doesnt go.
So googling around, I find that the key, immobilizer and ecu are all in cahoots.
I bought nistek (or something) and then you need a code to reprogram the immobilizer to accept the keys. I got a internet decode and, no good, not accepted.
ended up I got a matched ecu, key and immobilizer. And now it runs on 2 cylinders....grrr.
if I didnt install the 3 parts, it wont start.

Saturday will be spark hunting time. Its now missing on 1&4. But its cop, so not sure if waste fire or not.

they just might be the single worst POS frustrating car ever made. Nothing works as you would expect it to work. Nissan did that so you would need nissan programs to fix it. also the mechanicals are ....

Hate to say it but yea, they are a very frustrating car, mother in law has one, so far ive done fuel pump, injectors cop's, reset the timing, to try and fix a miss that only happens between take off up to about 2000rpm, never found the issue, started overheating really bad and split the hoses so changed them and found a cracked radiator also, fixed them and still over heating, but only when driven over 80kmh, changed thermostat and radiator cap, fixed for 2 days,then same thing, done a comp. test and was fine so changed water pump, and same thing, got pissed off and pulled the head off and found the head gasket was fucked, so done that and now the thing uses about a litre of oil a week! Only found that out when it was brought around ticking, pulled the sump and tadah, the big end bearing/ tin foil fell out, worn so bad the crank and rod are both rooted, now it has a reco'd engine, if ya need any parts then hit me up, I have a crate full of qg bits

I have had the unfortunate opportunity of working on a mates N16 hatch

 

bought with 20,000km in 2004, drove for 2 years fine (around 15,000km a year) then all down hill from there.... 

 

Car is dead stock:

changed AFM 3 times 

changed Oxy sensors

Occasionally will leave a smoke screen of black on take off (Even after new AFM installed, intermittent)

went from getting 700km a tank to 300km (was different every time you would fuel up, always filled with 98)

random CEL light flash/stay on while driving, then disappear 

original engine started eating 1lt of oil per tank of fuel 

original engine seized due to oil pump failure

low km engine installed from wreck 

starts eating oil 4 months down the track

low km engine seized due to over heat from head gasket blown

another low km engine installed

second low km engine starts burning oil 6 months down the track

25w50 oil being used to help stop it from dying.. 

 

still burning oil till this day, amount of km per tank is still random, still leaves black smoke intermittently at take off.. 

 

more money has been spent fixing the POS then its worth.. 

 

I have to admit though, the rest of the car is built very well.... Just not the Engine and electrical........

Rang a guy, yeayea he says, I hava da coils (not italian, but euro) $80 each second hand. I tell him they are $76 new from supercheap and $30ish from ebay in victoria. I then get told that he trying to run a business, and he is a actual shop, blah blah blah. The pics of the car suggest that it was a auction vehicle and had no engine when he bought it. I told him that I also go to auctions and he wouldnt have paid more than $200 for the whole car (I asked him about a ecu, key and immobilizer he said $300) he wants me to come to his shop and see that he paid $1200 for it......
I hope he did, and hope noone shops at his crap shop and he goes broke. What is it these days with stupid prices at wrecking yards.
