Hey guys, just wanted to get some ideas. I have a daily runner with standard 4g93T/TD04 with the usual mods...

EVO intercooler/custom piping

Custom air intake

Rear mounted battery

plumback BOV

3" exhaust

Custom SS ex mani

manual tap in engine bay running 11-12lbs boost

All of the above is how I bought it. I have the usual bolt on upgrades ready to install...

TD05 16g (from EVO III)

EVO III ecu

510cc injectors

609afm

Im sure after installing and running these bolt ons I'll be happy with it. But I'm just curious what everyone does from here when the novelty wears off. Yes I understand its a daily runner and my main focus is reliability, but in terms of easy upgrades, if there is such a thing, what would you guys suggest?

I've been toying with the idea of a rebuild (over time) whether its a 93 or 63 Im not sure yet. Is the next step a rebuild? Give me your thoughts guys before I start blowing cash I don't have on mods and builds I don't need.

Sounds like you've got everything sorted to make some decent power.

Everyone will say to go 4g63, both can make good power with forged internals, it just depends how far you want to go with it and how much money you're willing to put into it.

I hear you. Its just that as far as bolt on upgrades go, the buck stops with what I'm gonna be installing. After that, I haven't really seen anything else other than a rebuild. If I can get a few more to confirm this then I'll put it to bed and start on which bank I'm gonna rob...

You can always do a heap of other non performance mods (some are cheap, some not so much and some are purely down to personal preference... and you may have already done some of these, so apologies in advance if some of these are old news);

- short shifter

- gear linkage bushes, brass ones at gearbox end, OE at gearstick end

- fuel pump

- fuel pump wiring

- rear suspension bushes (if you think you need them; I've just done this and its magic!)

- 20mm rear sway bar, or 22, or 18, depending on your preferences (if not already done)

- front suspension bushes to get more castor on front wheels (again, if not already done)

- or, if budget permits, (and the Rolls Royce approach for more caster and camber), K-Mac Camber and Caster adjustment kits (see http://www.k-mac.com...mitsubishi.htm)

- wide band (I have one, just trying to get enough nerve to fit it, as I can see a fried ECU in my future if I am not careful)

- brake upgrades (I've been told the EVO1 front calipers are a very worthwhile upgrade over the stock GSR ones; I'm about to do this)

- braided brake lines (depends on the state of your old rubber ones, I want to do this!)

- upgrade (i) battery to chassis cable (ii) engine block to chassis cable (iii) alternator to battery cable

Thats all I can think of for now...

I agree with Dave, you can do other things like twin pot brake upgrade, recaro seats etc that will make more of a difference than mods to go make you go faster!

That above combo has been a proven 12 second package and when you want to go faster than that, you're looking at a whole 'nother league when it comes to spending cash.

Shot guys for the advice. Im liking the suspension upgrades and EVO front calipers as a starting point. I'll definitely look into this.

I think I'll like the TD05 upgrade and what it offers and I hope it keeps me amused for a long while. I'm thinking that my more immediate add ons will be fuel pump and oil cooler...actually Im thinking that it might be a good idea to do it either before or while I'm doing the install.

I agree with everything said above and will add that the td05 is a big difference compared to the td04. Another thing that you could do is install lsd diffs front and/or rear, I've got a mechanical lsd rear diff from an e3 to go into my car, dunno which way I'll go with the front yet. Catch can is another worthwhile mod if your engine has a few kms on it, just make sure it's done correctly.

Re "...immediate add ons will be fuel pump..."

Yes, definately do the fuel pump, most people do a walbro 255, I did this but would choose a different brand if I were to do it again (too noisy for me), there is a thread on this here:

http://www.4gtuner.c...hiny-fuel-pump/

which gives a few alternatives.

Most importantly do the wiring, there is a thread on this somewhere, either started by EVO-00X, or with a post from him on the wiring, if I can find it I will post it up.

Ok..fuel pump is first on the to-do list. When upgrading to evo oil cooler is it recommended to do oil relocation as well? Ive seen guys say the evo dump gets way too close to gsr oil filter...

It makes life 1,000 easier to do an oil change with the relocator kit. And for the price of them it's well worth it just to save you the hassle when changing the filter.

...All good. So oil relocation kit is another job to do during the install. So where does everyone relocate the oil filter to? I don't think I've seen any pics of where guys have relocated their filter to?

lol @ recaro seats upgrade. I've got Tommi Makinen front and rear seats and I can attest to how fast it makes my car lol

Recaro's are the best!!!

Another thing you should consider is making your setup more efficient. What dump pipe and front pipe do you have? Intercooler? Aftermarket j-pipe off the turbo?

I put mine in the drivers side wheel arch, in front of the wheel. GTi has minimal room to mount it but this way I can just untwist the filter from underneath.

Mine is bolted at a angle on the bottom radiator support rail. In front.
its a bit vunerable there tho. But thats the length flex it had and thats the best option till I redo the hoses.

I'm planning on porting the evo housing/dump. Ex mani has already been ported. I can't find a front pipe on eBay so I'm just gonna use my existing one and I'll be using an evo j-pipe as well. Evo intercooler that I already have hopefully should be up to the task?

Is this efficient enough or....

^ you know how it is...you think you have everything, then you gotta wait to get something else to make that one bolt on run at optimum lol. Do it once...do it right eh?
