So the bolts in the picture go through holes you drill in the firewall, and exit into the engine bay?

Ah OK. So you don't need a corresponding plate on the engine side of the firewall that the passenger side plate bolts to, for extra re-enforcement?

i.e. so the firewall is "sandwiched between the two stronger plates either side of it?

No. The plate you make attatches to the clutch and goes inside the car. It just means its not flexing on the 2 little posts. Its fully supported

Here you go, this is from one of Jack's threads:

Attached File  Clutch brace plate.pdf   65.03KB   137 downloads

You can sort of work out how it all fits together from this.

Or have a look at this, this is mine (I have others but I can't remember where I got them from), the grey flat plate goes against the firewall and the two bolts go through. If you did not have that plate fitted there would only be the two bolts with their collars against the firewall, which over time can wreck it.

My clutch brace plate 2 (Small).jpg

I did not weld mine, its multiple aluminium plates down to the pedal box, others do some welding and use a single plate, whatever works for you as long as the load is distributed across the firewall when its bolted up.

Could be in my head but the clutch did seeem to feel a bit sharper when I fitted it.

Hmm... have not really noticed before but what is the blue circled component in the diagram?

I did not find this when I pulled my clutch pedal box out!
