Does anyone have hard evidence that changeing the MPI long runner mani to an aftermarket ebay type mani have any benefits.

A before and after dyno sheet would be great.

Bazeng did a 6bolt manifold comparo ages ago. Its a good read, certainly worth searching for.
no dyno sheets, but all flow figures on about 4-5 manifolds

In a nutshell - NO.

The standard intake manifolds are hugely underrated and all too quickly swapped for aftermarket items with no real noticieable improvements.

Think of the $$$$$$$$$$$$$ car companies put into things like inlet manifold design and testing to make sure everything is optimal - then think about how much $$$ ebay sellers etc would spend on that level of development.

If anything - spend the $$$ with a clean up of the standard intake manifold and if you're really keen a match-port to the cylinder head.

I agree ^ plenty of the late model evo's around my circle that make big power and still use standard intake mani...

true, but it does depend on your power levels,

its the same as a 3" exhaust, you can make big power with it but

go to some thing bigger and you will gain power

Maybe Oldie can ellaborate on his power level so we can better answer the question then George?

If anything do it for the weight saving. The standard heap of junk weighs a ton compared to a sheet metal intake

If you were going to go to a sheet metal intake, i'd get one made specifically for your engine and desired power band as it can be calculated: Chamber volume/runner length/runner size/etc....

Most ebay manifolds aren't great, they are a copy of someone else designs and expect them to "work the same" as the original..

But since your setup is in a RWD, it might be a tad easier for you to use another intake thats not stock...

I have a big port intake that was set up for RWD which was modded to take an SR20 throttle body. Needs the plenum welded back onto the runner plate as I was going to convert it back to east west. Not a cheap eBay job, but not sure of its origins. Sitting on a self looking to be used on something cool.

I'd be interested to see some results too. I was thinking about upgrading my intake manifold but not sure of $$$ vs performance.

long runners v short runners it's all about air velocity you want to keep the air traveling subsonic into the intake in boosted applications shorter runners are used to have lower intake velocities

If you think you can use it, maybe see if JayRome is feeling the love and get it sent to him to weld up then sent up to you. The throttle plate is to suit SR20 tb.

Isn't Matthias making close to 1000hp and running low 9s with standard evo intake manifold?
