Hi everyone,

I am currently replacing my front EVO 3? cross member after being bent in and accident.

Now I brought a cross member off Ebay, saying it was a 1,2,3 item.

I have noticed some structural differences between the two items,

Which is making it hard to identify which item is actually the EVO 2/3 part. or another EVO model.

The cross member that came out of my car is supposedly an EVO 3 item, but there is no proof of that.

I have attached pictures of the difference. I have highlighted in red the area where the difference is.

The first lot of pictures are from the one I got off Ebay,

These are the pictures from the one in the car, Supposedly EVO 3.

And both together.

If anyone knows that would be great,

Thanks,

Possibly a GSR crossmember.  The evos had subtle differences when compared to a GSR/standard Lancer with additional bracing and reinforcements.

From what I know the evo 3 had an increased track over the earlier models too...?

There was a pretty good write up on the differences between K-frames on evocoupe.net IIRC.

Mine looks to be the same as the lower one. Ie no corner cut off it. I thought it was from a gsr, but then again....i think it came from the guy that had geo old race car.

Thanks for the reply's guys,

So it seems I have a GSR item, unfortunately.

Will hunt for an EVO 3 item, I think you can still get them new from RALLIART.

Thanks Sam.

I wish I could, But the PRC rally rules state that factory cross members have to be used.

Shame when a Brand new cross member from RALLIART is $800!

The Evo II/III definitely has wider track due to the crossmember; I measured against an Evo I crossmember and the difference was significant. The extra wheelbase comes from the control arms on the II/III though. My Evo 1 has a 2/3 crossmember with Evo 1 control arms (and custom ball joints, rotors spaced out 15mm), I have major tire clearance issues at the back of the wheel-well on stock-height tires, but a crazy amount of front track.
